This is nowhere near mustang related, but i thought i would share these, seeing as how many people on here are getting DSLR cameras.

My wife found a spider crawling on one of her shirts today when she was geting ready for work.

He was a little guy. Leg span the diameter of a dime.

He was a good sport and diddnt mind me putting him on a flower and taking pics.

Nikon D40, 55-200mm VR lens @ 135mm + 10x Opteka macro ring. ($30)

I'm buying that lens in about a week :D

JackThe Ripper 02-05-2009 03:04 PM

the Nikkor 55-200 AF-S lens is rediculously good for the price.

However, in order to get pics like these you need this.

http://www.amazon.com/Opteka-Profess...3874874&sr=8-2

thats the opteka macro lens. When it is on the 55-200 sit the lens at about 105-135 for the best pics. anything much closer than 135 gets a bit hard to deal with.

The object yer shooting needs to be about 2-4 inches from the lens depending on your focus point.

it is defaintly a lot of fun to play around with, ive never used a "real" macro lens, so im not sure how this really stacks up in ease of use compared to a true macro lens, but the pics are pretty damn good for a $30 10x filter.

it also works fine on the 18-55, but the 18-55 kit lens with the d40 does not have VR.

Switch 02-05-2009 03:07 PM

I'll definitely have to check that out! Thanks!

I'll try it with my 18-55 VR right now. I'll try to use my tripod if I have trouble keeping it steady.

You should be cool with the 18-55VR, you wont be able to get AS close, but pretty darn close.

To stablize the camera i had it on my tripod with the legs folded in and 2 of them collapsed so it worked like a monopod. Worked pretty well, just put pressure down to steady.

spike_africa 02-05-2009 04:02 PM

Um thats pretty cool looking.

NewMustangMan 02-05-2009 04:41 PM

Not exactly...

It's from a $30 filter attached to a $200 lens.

Cant forget the $20 Hoya UV filter, that is sandwiched between the 55-200 and macro filter. lol

not that a UV filter is good for much on a DSLR other than adding a little protection to the lens

I have both the VR and NON VR version of the 55-200 lens. They both take bitching pics, but the VR version feels way better.

The VR is the one on the left.

VR is just vibration reduction isn't it? Like the image-stabilization on Canon lenses

I'm gonna pick this up

JackThe Ripper 02-05-2009 05:28 PM

Yup. VR = IS

Yah that canon 55-250 is pretty much the equivelant of what im using.

mustangV6_04 02-05-2009 07:14 PM

I had the option of my girlfriend buying me a d40 last tuesday but i denied the offer because i would have felt so bad on her spending so much on me even though i spend all my money on our bills. I'm thinking i should have said yes now lol

mustangrn 02-05-2009 07:34 PM

As great as those pics are, they are a little unsettling for some one dealing with brown recluse issues!!!!

rebelyell 02-05-2009 10:58 PM

I used to have spider issues. To the point where they would invade my dreams. Where I grew up, our house had humongus wolf spiders. They would invade every room in the house, so you didn't know when they would show up. I have just recently ( and still trying ) to come to peace with them. I will not lash out at a spider just cause it's there. Instead, I will just sit and watch them. They are amazing creatures actually. Just give them space, if they're not inside your home. BTW Jack, that looks like a juvenile wolf spider, but I may be wrong.. Nice Pics BTW.. ;)

King 02-05-2009 11:03 PM

I used to have a phobia of spiders after watching the movie arachnophobia not too long after that came out when I was a wee-little-boy. I also grew up with spider problems at my house, and my mom was once bit by a brown recluse (which was a bad situation so I totally understand where you're coming from mustangrn), however, those are some kick butt pictures.

Well done, Chris.

Steeda97 02-06-2009 06:16 AM

Thoes are cool pictures, but FUCK spiders. I don't mess with spiders if they are in a web outside. But if I find a little 8 legged fawker in my house, flamming hairspray to the face.

Black Sunshine 02-06-2009 11:11 AM

Beautiful pictures, but that little fucker would look better squished underneath my Doc Martens.

Lazerred6 02-06-2009 11:30 AM

I may be weird but I find spiders really cool and the bigger the better I one summer there was a funnel web spider that built a home by my house when I was little and I fed him crickets almost every day. The little dude was like lightening

mustangV6_04 02-06-2009 12:13 PM

I've had a fear of them forever since i lived in new mexico and had like 8 inch diameter tarantulas

Don't I know it!! As an Operating Room nurse, I've had to clean out many a bite wound and seen alot of flesh eaten away. So far we have caught 15 on sticky traps and killed about 5 more.

My spider pics from my latest sticky trap collection.

Are these in your house????? If so move to next state. I had a friend years ago that was bitten by a brown. The bite got really really bad before it got better, almost lost his left hand.

mustangrn 02-07-2009 07:28 PM

Yep!! Those came from what was my son's toy closet. There are actually 2 more on that trap that you can't see. I have killed them all over the house. It will cost over $500 to have the house treated.

Black Sunshine 02-07-2009 07:40 PM

I'd burn the house down and move. I hate spiders with a passion.

One of my uncles got bit by a brown recluse a few years ago and he still has a crater in his arm from the bite.

I haven't seen many of those down here, but I know we have them. I've seen a few Black Widows outside of my house. They're such pretty spiders. Sleek, shiny, and just graceful looking, even the way they walk... but that doesn't stop me from killing them. Many 'a spider has died by my hands, feet, vacuum cleaner, nearest chemical I can spray on it, nearest thing I can squish them with, etc. I show no mercy. I've even set a few of them on fire. :flameON:

SeanStang 02-07-2009 09:58 PM

Great pics again Jack!

I just leave spiders alone and they leave me alone. Only reason I let them live is to kill off other bugs that I don't wanna deal with lol.
