this stuff is called aerogel I don't know if you guys have heard of it before but apparently it's really light and very strong for it's weight and it's almost completely heat resistant

I wonder how well an intake spacer of this stuff would work

The idea of using as an intake spacer is intriguing. From the given application it may make a better gasket. If a product with better heat resistant properties could be incorporated into ALL of your gaskets, that would be more than excellent. =D

aerogel is basically a fabric of glass in a 3d grid structure. It's quite delicate under compression. It's temperature stable till hell won't have it but it's still relatively fragile.

NASA's Stardust mission used aerogel to capture and return cometary particles just because it is so fragile. As particulate strikes the glass weave the glass would melt around it and form a perfectly sealed little sample container.
