Friggin Fahvernugen!!

So I raced my Porsche 944 at Rockingham, NC last month and had a, what I thought, clutch Master Cylinder problem....pedal dropped right to the floor at the start of my second to last race. Saw some fluid at the top of the clutch pedal so I thought no brainer. Well, I replaced the clutch Master Cylinder and the Clutch Slave Cylinder only to realize that it was neither. Turns out it was my snap ring on my throw out bearing. No big deal right? WRONG! Friggin clutch replacement is a 12 hour job on a lift! Damn fine German Engineering. Shoulda kept my Mustang race car project. http://www.mcmmotorsports.com/smilies/rant.gif

Yup, tranny and rear are one unit which must be removed in order to remove the torque tube to gain access to the bellhousing. :(

haha, that sounds like fun

Do you have any pictures or video of your races?

Thats pretty awesome. So what issues was the snap ring causing? Problems getting into gear or something like that? Seemed like it took a second to get into gear but that could just be the way the car is, seemed frustrating. And frustrating that the car ahead of you for that while seemed to have more open straight acceleration. Thas cool stuff.

Basically, something in the clutch itself broke. There was no clutch, I had to shift without it for the entire race. Kinda like I shift my big truck....floating gears.

So like rev-matching? I have no idea, but that was awesome to watch. My goal is to do something like that with the Mustang, but without turning it into a total racecar unless I get something else to drive.

Exactly.

zigzagg321 10-27-2008 04:20 PM

thats a similar setup as a Vette. PITA to do a clutch in those.

Where do you think the engine is in my Porsche?

INtZ 10-27-2008 06:43 PM

No i understand your Porsche is rear engine, i've never seen a rear engine Vette

SnTBakosFinest 10-27-2008 06:45 PM

Vettes are extremely difficult for tranny work...

Ask my buddy in his 07 Lemon Z06 :kekekegay:

INtZ 10-27-2008 07:19 PM

wow ive never seen a transaxle like that before. i was thinking it was like a honda civic or something where the transaxle bolts right up to the engine and then theres no driveshaft just 2 axles, 1 on each side. thats cool as hell. i assumed your car had a driveline like a 911 or something where the engine sits right over the drive tires
