Default Classified Thread (Rules)

Look, I am not sure who makes the rules around here and I do not want to be critical because I appreciate these boards and have learned a lot and got some great advice.....but:

The rule about having 50 posts before you can post a thread in the classifieds does in no way protect the users of this forum from being "ripped off." If I so chose I could make 50 random posts to different threads in about 15 minutes (max).

The fact is that I have a car that I do not want to give to a dealer because I know they will part it out and return it to a more factory look and feel before selling it. I posted my car in the classifides hoping that someone who may appreciate professional work would be interested.

So what is actually happening is the opposite of what the boards were created for, I have a great car that someone may be interested in and my thread gets deleted.

On another note, can someone explain to me how someone could get "ripped off?" I certainly hope that no one out there would just write a check for a car they have never driven and had checked out by their shop of choice (much less seen). I am not asking someone to buy my car without seeing it or driving it. So how can a member of the board get "ripped off" in a situation like this?

as to the op: the reason for the 50 post rule is so that people that want to sell their stuff have to make an effort to be known. if someone just posts random things like you mentioned, then the likliness of you being able to sell your item on here is slim to none because poeple will pick up it. this is a tightly knit forum where everyone knows everyone. now if you were to go to svtp where the membership is so large, you may beable to get away with random posts.

on another note, its a rule for these forums and if you dont like it, then just dont sell your product here. it is the owner of the sites decision to make this rule, and many others. its not a democracy.

(and im not trying to come off as an ***....im just trying to explain myself)

I think that rule is basically in place in an effort to prevent fraudulent transactions on the seller's part. The 50 post mark is most likely because the people on this forum may have a chance to get to know a person better by their posts. While 50 posts may not seem like a lot, I think it does give the users a sense of how the person will be. 50 posts in 15 minutes won't really mean **** for anyone, unless they are amazing posts.

To explain how someone could possibly get ripped off in such a situation; let's say the mods allow you to post your ad without reaching 50 posts. Let's say that I am interested in buying your car, due to the ad. If I had the money to give you outright, I am more than positive that you would take my money if I wanted your car, whether I had driven it or not. I go up there to get the car, what I think is going to be this awesome Mustang and it is a goddamn Honda Civic with a huge wing, ugly stickers, and bright green wheels. That, my friend, is a fraudulent transaction.

Granted, anyone with any amount of posts could pull **** like that, but anyone with good standing on this site would not even think about ripping anyone off because I think there is a level of respect here that should be maintained amongst the members. It helps to weed out potential douchebag newbies (not saying you are one) from ripping us off.

The rule is in place for a good reason. My advice to you is to build a good reputation, wait, and post it then. Or, if the mods allow, you could say that your car is for sale in your signature and that someone can PM you if they are interested. You could also pay to put an ad in your local classified section.

While I understand where you are coming from, I really don't think they're going to bend the rules on this.

I take your point but....the rule is set to "prevent people from getting ripped off" and I just do not understand how the 50 post rule prevents it or even how a person could get ripped off. Maybe if you are trying to buy a random $100 part a person could get ripped off if they do something stupid like send a check or cash without having received the part. I get that but I am trying to sell an entire car

Black Sunshine: I guess I am operating under the assumption that no one in their right mind would give me money for my car without having driven it and had it checked out. I would personally not accept someones money until they had seen and driven and checked out the car. But if there are people out there who would be so foolish then I guess the rule is necessary.

The classified section is not only for cars, actually it is used far less to sell cars and more to sell parts and other random things. The 50 post rule has been in effect for, well, years and quite frankly they aren't going to change it because you don't like it. BUT I will explain it since you can't seem to understand it.

The things sold in the Classifieds most often are parts, usually valued in the $100-300 area. I don't know about you, but if I live in TN and you live in (let's say California) I'm not going to fly to Ca. to check out a set of SLP Mufflers. I'm going to send you the money and wait for my parts to be delivered. Just like eBay, if you don't have any feedback, or have negative feedback I'm going to be weary of buying anything from you (feedback = Posts in this analogy) for fear that I'm going to be ripped off.

Make sense now?

Ha Ha dude, I said that in my post a minute ago. I agree with the rule for the purpose of selling parts, just not entire cars. You are correct if I was buying a $200 part I wouldnt inspect it before I bought it. But the 50 post rule cannot stop someone from screwing a member in this regard.

Anyway, I appreciate everyone's input, and I wasn't asking for the rule to be changed for me. I just found/find the rule curious.

Yeah I need to get some pics up. I tried to put it in my profile yesterday but the file was too large. Any thoughts on how to resize or a better way to post pics would be appreciated.

Thanks,

My view of the rule is that it is there so random people can't just come in a post a bunch of crap for sale (not using your car as an example) we don't want the for sale section to be like craigs list

just because you are selling a whole vehicle doesnt make you an exception to policy.

there is a criteria for selling products and you dont meet it at the moment.

the rules are here to maintain some kind of order and in a way to protect forum members. sure there will be sumbags out there with sufficient posts that will try or have burned members here, its inevitable. dont worry you are not the only newbie that has tried to sell something here and get shutdown. this literally happens daily on this message board.

so, please stick around...you may like it here. tons of smart asses running around these parts.

Look at it this way, in 31 posts you can make the for sale thread with no problems what so ever. Haha.

Default Job

I am selling this car because I have to get a more conservative car for work and I am not in the position to own 2 cars.

I do like the forum and I didn't mean to sound like a griper just a question.

Those are the rules, they arent changing.

all you need is 50 posts to put up a classified ad, were not asking you to build the empire state building out of water.

Now that you mention it, could you change the rule so that he would have to do that? 'Cause that would be kinda cool..

50 posts = 50 legit posts: none of those help your manhood posts, none of those yes/no unhelpful posts, or anything like that. You have to be involved with us, before you can sell to us.

It's like a guy selling watches out of his jacket in a big city, could he be legit? Sure. But you wouldn't be interested if this shady character came up to you at random and asked if you'd like to buy a watch. You might be interested if the guy came up, complimented the watch you already have and then said, 'you know, I've got a watch that you might like a little more than the one you've already got'. So think of your first 50 posts as the strange conversation with random folks as a shady watch seller in a big city. <<<--- if that makes sense.

Good thing you brought this up as we are thinking about making it 200 posts as 50 is not enough to gauge someones intentions.

Me: "Hey King how are you?"
King: "Fine shady looking sir, how are you?"
Me: "I'm great and by the way that is a fine looking mustang you have."
King: "Thanks shady looking sir."
Me: (opens trenchcoat) "Just so happens I may have a 2005 Redfire GT here under my coat that you may like even better"

Yeah...just like that

Agreed.

This is an online community of mustang enthusiests, not an auction house. The classifieds section is an aid for the members, not just any tom dick and harry who want to come in and complain with thier first 50 posts so they can hawk something on here.

try craigslist, ebay, autotrader, vehix,......

i dont think i have ever seen a car sell over this forum board.

true people could make 50 pointless posts but when people sell stuff I look for people that I somewhat know. If they contribute and seem legit i'll buy from them. If they have 50 posts and I see all they did was bring back posts from the dead saying "I agree" etc.. I'll pass on that deal

You know what, I don't really care who buys my car (if I even end up selling it) but it is an impressive mustang with impressive numbers pretty much NA to the engine. I have been involved in other threads in this forum previously totally unrelated to the sale of my car (wheels and tires, mechanical problems etc) I just typically will not go back and forth rather make a detailed post answering someones question or asking my own.

It is a valid point that cars don't typically sell on boards but being a mustang lover I realize that should I part my car out and sell it to a dealer it will be a travasty (sp?). So for all of the other mustang lovers (who I would assume are the people who would frequent these boards) I thought I would give the car a chance to remain intact.

I guess some people are more interested in throwing their weight around than using good judgement and trying to accomodate and retain new members to the boards.

Like I said, I don't really care about the classifide thread and while I am sure you think you have devastated me by disallowing my thread and requiring me to post 200 times, you have not (I am just kidding, I really like the boards but they do not run my life like some people).
