citation for catless xpipe

Just wondering if you can get a ticket even though your state does not have inspection. Anybody ran across this?

Shambles 07-06-2005 12:59 PM

Not that I have heard of...

If your state doesnt do emissions inspections then there is no reason why you would get a ticket for having an uncatted x-pipe.

Fight it.

venom 07-06-2005 01:23 PM

dont have a ticket just wondering if I do go catless.

Shambles 07-06-2005 01:29 PM

If there isnt an emissions inspection then you wont have a problem going catless.

madmatt 07-06-2005 01:30 PM

Not many a po po is going to get on his stomach to check...you should be ok with the type of cars running around there anyways.

MachGT 07-06-2005 01:56 PM

you can get a ticket for being too loud though.

There are some citys that have anti-racer task forces in thier police department. These people will pull you over if they think your car might not be street legal, then they pop your hood and start inspecting everything to make sure it is legal, they even run a mirror on a pole under your car to make sure it has its cats as well.

They dont have anything like that in denver from what i can tell, but i saw something about this on the discovery channel, and good luck pulling anything over these guys.

It showed about 10-12 cops with about 10-15 ricers pulled over, hoods open, getting in the engine with measuring tapes, gauges, and all kinds of crap. They were handing out fines left and right, and it got pretty expencive, one of the kids had over $4,000 in fines handed to him..

Of course, there are NOT a whole lot of citys with these kinds of task forces, probably most of them are either in florida or california.
Aint got nothing like that in denver.

ever state has to have cats just because you dont have emmsion checks doesnt mean they dont ticket for it. its 500 here for not having them but no one really cares. I only know of one guy who got a ticket and its cause he was a complete dick to the cop so he checked everything out on the car.

all kinds of stuff apparently. i guess there are a lot of hoses and fittings that are not street legal, not to mention safty items removed for weight reduction that keeps it from being legal. Not really 100% sure on any of that stuff, but there is apparently quite a bit of stuff that isnt legal.

The main thing they were focused on was unreliable parts, homemade parts, and stuff like that. These kids buy these cheapass bright colored hoses that have a tendancy to blow, and all kinds of Bargain Buck stuff that boosts performance at the expence of reliability.

They were checking various pressures and measuring various things in the engines and handing out tickets like candy at halloween

Keep in mind, i saw this on discovery channel after "The Fast And Furious" came out in the theaters, so it was a while back.....

MattJ 07-06-2005 04:33 PM

I seen that forever ago. They were measuring wheel gap and bumper height and there is some law on how low it can be, so thats one of them. Their headlights are also usually illegal

Here's a question.

Say you have an offroad xpipe, and yer driving around and get in a wreck, they decide it was your fault.

Your insurance company finds out that you modified your car and it is no longer street legal, can they deny any claims seeing as how the car in thier view was unfit for street driving????????

:happy2:

Yes, they can. Your car is insured "STOCK" unless you otherwise note. So they can tell you that you lied in contract and deny coverage, but 95% of the time, they wont. And if they do, make a scene in front of as many people as you can and youll be alright.

What sucks another thing is with tinted tailights, If somone rearends you, no matter what (unless its a redlight, i thnk) its your fault :(

it is illegal to remove a properly functioning Catalytic converter.

I've run an O/R Pipe for 1.5 years, just swap out the midpipe whenever inspection is due.

I've heard of a 800+ rwhp Cobra tuned by Tim at MPH with Longtubes and no Cat's that passes inspection in Ga. My understanding was it passed the sniffer test as well, but i'm calling BS.

I dont know, Tim has the magic stick...I wouldnt doubt it to be honest.

Tim is a great tuner...he and Jerry did my car. But it would be impossible to pass a sniffer inspection without Properly functioning cats...and even with extensive mods (aggressive cams/tune) then it isn't a given, unless he's found a new way to erradicate NOx gasses and Hyrocarbons without Cats.
