Working for a Friend??? Y or N
One of my good friends teamed up with his dad a bought a Shell gas station near where i live. And they both offered me and another friend a job there.
The positive: - good money (12+ bucks an hour) - get to be around cars and possibly work on cars if i can get into the garage instead of being a cashier - very flexible hours (good for school) The negative: - my friend will be my manager! So basically what i am getting at is should i go for the set job with my friend, keep my stupid job at the mall (clothing store) which pays crap even though i am a supervisor (8.75/hr). Or get a job in a restaurant making minimum plus tips. |
depends on how good a friend he is IMO. id go for it, you'll probably enjoy your self a lot more. unless your friend is a dick, that is.

do it, if it doesnt work out, just tell them that you dont want to let work get between you two.

I don't know how old you are, but I can't imagine it becoming that big of a deal. Just don't try to take advantage of the fact that your friend is your manager, and do your job. You might be missing out on some ladies from the mall though.

I would go find a good expensive restraunt and wait tables. I have been waiting tables at pappa's seafood house and I pull a minimum of 500 every week nothing less, usually more.
|
but if he has never waited tables before an expensive place is not going to hire someone without experience.
edit: have you worked in a restaurant before steeda |
I'd work for my friend.. If I can work with my Dad, surely you could manage to work with a good friend! lol
I seriously don't see why it would be an issue, just don't slack, work for him like he is any other manager you've had in the past. |
+1 to what evan said.
As long as you bust your ass and dont try to slack off cause yer friend is yer boss then you should be fine. remember, when yer at work, he is yer boss, off work, he is your friend. Keep your relationship to him seperated to that degree and everything should be fine. |

I have experience with this exact situation alsmost. One of my friend's Dad's owns a bunch of convienence stores around town. Ofcourse, my friend (oldest son of the owner) and his brothers work there for thier Dad. Well, most of my other friends, who are also long-time friends of the owners kids, end up working there becuase they always need help and stuff. The one friend and the kids of the Dad(owner) always end up being "managers/closers". So you've got the family kids as the "bosses" and all thier friends as the chashiers and general help. I never worked there but for all my friends it worked out and has brought everyone closer, it has ended up being a big hang-out spot for all of us since there is no "adult" supervision.
I would say go for it, just don't expect any special treatment, even though you will probably get some. |
go for it, sounds like a sweet deal. But if problems arise, then just get out and tell it will be better for your guys friendship that way.
