According to the US Census Bureau in 2005:
The median household income was roughly $46,000, the median annual earnings for someone in the labor force age 25 or older were $32,000. Granted this is the median, meaning average Joe. You're talking very, very high middle-class and low high-class folks. Until you can prove me wrong, you will remain an idiot.

Uhh..my dad's an electrical engineer making around $60-70k/year, and he's been working for over 25 years.

From my experience, I have only a few friends whose parents' make over $100k a year, and their parents are the lawyer/doctor types. The other one's dad is a flight surgeon (Captain) in the Navy.

They are definitely not what I could call 'average'

I'm really surprised how many of you are freely saying how much dinero you make, that used to be a hush-hush kind of a subject.
Money screams, but class whispers....

You are quite right, $100-150k/yr household income would be considered upper-middle class. If you read carefully I specifically said "If I'm not mistaken" which obviously says "hey, I might be wrong." So, if that makes me an idiot I guess I'm all in.

My logic in this is looking at my mom who has been working in a factory for about 10 years, averaging about $32-38,000/yr then looking at my brother who currently is employed with dollar General working in their "corporate headquarters" making about $52-60,000/yr depending obviously on bonus/overtime etc. I personally consider both of these to be "average" jobs, working for someone else, not self-employed.

If you notice "king" in your quick wikipedia google search it shows an average "middle to upper middle class" self-employed person at a little better than $100,000/yr. Also, if you look carefully, your statistics are based mostly on single income we are talking on combined incomes, two or more.

This could go on and on forever, the bottom line is simple. Less money is actually more in different economies. Let's face it, if we lived in california or new york $40,000 combined income would not get you very far, but living in the central US a $40,000 income would have you living fairly comfortably in a modest home, though you would be like me working very hard to keep your ends meeting.

King 08-21-2008 10:19 PM

Here's some wisdom for the future, if you "might be wrong" don't post it to make a point.

Badfish 08-21-2008 11:38 PM

lol 288 grand is attainable and common? dude what the fuck neighborhood did you come from?

krazypony 08-22-2008 08:58 AM

Dude your only 21, if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and from what I can see you were not being that your mom is a hard working person in every day society trying to make a living and then your brother for having a good average job. So until you are actually making some good money and living on your own, then tell us how its done...because until reality kicks in you just wont understand about priorities in general to know you can get those mods or new whatever until it way down the road with everything being paid...

gawd I feel like someone let MixedBreed back in to the forum with his crazy replies!

Steeda97 08-22-2008 09:01 AM

Haha i'd be pissed if someone compared me to mixedbreed.

I don't know what the hell you are talking about. I'm simply trying to have a normal, everyday discussion. You want to say I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth? Then compare me to Mixbreed?

Yeah, silver spoon. My dad is self-employed, my mom didn't work when I was little, parents got divorced when I was 11 years old. Have been living on my own, paying my own bills since I was 18 and have now bought and remodeled a house at 21. Get your story straight bud.

Some of you seem very bitter that you don't make enough money, well apply yourselves, work harder, go back to school, do something but don't try to take it out on anyone else.

I think this thread needs to be closed, no point in having long time members start hating each other because of some trailer trash thread that V6MP started....

i was just making a point, trailers arent the safest things to live in. they can burn down in less than 4mintues to the ground. infact we had one burn down with a family in it, the mother and father got out but the kids(they had 2 or 3) burned to death and you could hear them screaming. coem to find out the mother and father were on drugs and they didnt really care what happend.

Holy shit, I hope those motherfuckers are in jail! That is horrible..

JackThe Ripper 08-22-2008 08:37 PM

well im late to the party.

too busy getting married and shit.

Nice pics though, looks like a good blaze.

Sorry to hear about the family getting burned in the fire. Its always sad to hear about kids falling victim to that sort of stuff. Hell, the other day some lady i work with's kids died in her car. 2 and 5. police are still investigating.

as for the money thing...

1) Who the hell cares?

2) How can anyone try to guage the spending ability and financial secyurity of V6_Mustang_Power's parents by a "6 grand a month" statement? If yer in an area with a lower cost of living, making 6k a month after taxes, with only 1k mortgage payment, yer in pretty damn good shape. Even if it is 6k before taxes, with a 1k mortgage and no car payments maybe dropping 1k - 1.5k for thier sons car is something they enjoy doing and can afford.

The point is unless you know everything about somebodys financial situation you cant gauge shit about thier spending ability of financial security based off a number.

Point in case.

Lets say I make over a 6,000 month before taxes. After car payment, insurance, mortgage, cellphone, food bills, water, electric, cable, trash, gas and food for 2 adults, a 7year old and a baby, there aint a whole lot to go around once all that is spent.

my buddy makes roughly 4,000 a month before taxes. His rent is half my mortgage, he has no kids, lives closer to work and does not have to commute. This guy ALWAYS has plenty of money to do what he wants to.

Unless you know everything about a persons financial situation, dont bother casting judgements about what they can, cannot, should, or should not afford, cause quite frankly its nobody's business but the people making thier money, and without all the facts of thier situation you just dont know shit.

And breaking 100,000 a year right now aint exactly easy. Im 31 years old, i have a lot of friends, a lot of educated and very intelligent friends, I have friends in management, retail, high level sales, technical careers, friends with thier own businesses, ranging between the ages of 23 and 36, and none of them break 100k a year.

Achieveable?.... yes.

Easy? No. You gotta bust your ass. Plain and simple. And most people just dont have the energy to work as hard as they need to.

and i dont know what the magical number is, but it seems it doesent matter how much you make, somehow you still just manage to get by.

I have fought a few fires in manufactured homes, aka trailers in my 27+ years on the fire department.

The older units tend to burn quicker because they are wood framed, built with barely dimensional lumber (which held the weight down for over the road transport) and contain a lot of plastics. Most of then were wired with aluminum wiring, which tends to expand and contract and is no longer allowed to be used by the national electrical code. They tend to have aluminum siding and roofs which holds in heat, which further accelerates the combustion process. <ost of them have propane for heat and cooking, and propane tanks have their own hazards, especially when impinged by fire.

The newer manufactured homes are built to much stricter codes and standards and have smoke detection systems installed at the time of manufacture.

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors save lives.

I had a friend that lost kids in a fire and it was sad all around they left a candle burning and fell asleep and was woke up by neighbors beating on the walls of the trailer they lost 2 kids in the fire and she was pregnant and lost the babies she was pregnant with. It just sad anyone especially kids lose their like that way. But from what I seen of it there was nothing left just ashes and that is sad.
