Is buying used gears a no-no?

So I found some 4.10s for the 7.5 inch rear for my 1998 6'er and they are used I just wanted to know if this would be ok becuase I can get them for $80 shipped.

depends on the gears everytime, it's hit or miss. I had some used gears installed on my v6 and everything worked out perfectly, but the shop wouldn't garentee that they would be perfect, so you'd have to pay another install charge if they sucked and had to get another set put in. Buy new and save yourself the worry.

Edit: This could go in Tech couldn't it?

Yeah I was thinking new might be best.

It will be best. That's something I learned through my v6. Buy new and buy the best quality you can possibly afford. Even thought the gears worked out for me on the v6, I bought some cheap parts that I wasn't happy with in the end. I have tried my best to not make that mistake with the GT.

Certain things you should never buy used. I would have to say gears and transmissions are a no no. and rear end parts.

Welp, I just made that mistake then. lol..

Gears and a posi .. if it breaks, well, i'll keep the stock gears handy.. hopefully i'll be one of the lucky ones.
