Denver, CO???

So I was reading an article in USA today that said Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nugget's was arrested on suspision of DUI...shocker, an NBA player getting in trouble.

The story went on to say that DUI suspects are ticketed and released because Denver Police don't jail DUI suspects. So do they impound your car or make you get a ride home or do they just write a ticket and you can hop back in the car and try your luck again? There has to be something I'm missing hear cause that just sounds lame to me.

wow....

everyone i know who gets caught with DUI gets arrested and put in DETOX which is a holding place for drunks.

i have NEVER heared of somone being allowed to drive home after a DUI.

Fuck him, they should have thrown his ass in jail, i hate it when famous people get special treatment

haha wow I just read that and it sure makes it seem like the cop was like alright your drunk just try to drive home heres a ticket.

"Hahn did not know how he got home" haha yeah because his ass should have been in jail for the night

yea, never heard of that..... to my knowledge, they throw your ass in jail.... if your realllllyyyyyy lucky (or underage) someone can come get you.... yea right!

yeah something doesn't sound right because what if the person gets back in the car and ends up killing someone....I would think there would a be a pretty hefty lawsuit against the police department. I think what they might do is take the DUI suspect to the police station, process all the paper work including blood alcohol levels and then let the person go rather than keeping them in jail for 8 hours.

The article makes it seem like they wrote him a ticket for DUI and said "have a nice night".

"Detective Sharon Hahn said Anthony failed a series of sobriety tests. He was charged with DUI, then taken to police headquarters before being released to a "sober responsible party," Hahn said. Anthony is due in court May 14."
This is the THIRD paragraph, how does it sound like they let him go?

I thought you needed to be picked up. I got a call once around 3 am from a friend who needed to be picked up for getting a DUI (she was over 21).

It bugs me too when celebrities get special treatment, there is NO reason for them to.

I was going to say lol. It says right there he was arrested and taken in, and then released to someone else. And the rest of the article is about basketball.

yeah they totally updated that article. I just clicked on the link after reading your post and it's completely different than before. The original article made it seem like they gave him a ticket let him go. damn internet reporting!

Wait, oh yeah thats right that is how we roll in colorado.

You get pulled over, yer drunk, you fail breathalyzer, then the cop writes you a 2 point ticket with a $45 fine.

Then the cop goes back to his car and covers his eyes and countys to 50, you drive away, when he is done if he cant see you then he can not pursue you anymore.

thats the law.
