California vs homeschooling
 

Long story short.....the Courts in Cali ruled parents can't homeschool their kids unless they have teaching creditials. How do you all feel about that?

mega retarded. An emergency teaching credential in california only requires a bachelors degree and a 6th grade level of knowledge.

If I can raise them, I can educate them. I can not be required by the state to submit to their schooling, neither can my kids.

Well just think of all the homeschool kids that might be disturbed that could be earning the school an extra 60k a year on thier budget for special needs kids.

IMHO I think homeschool is a bad idea...not bad in the sense that they won't get the same education because it can even be better, but public school or private for that matter helps socialize kids. By talking and playing with peers they learn to share, to trust, etc...I think home school hinders kids in that sense...Home school cannot replace the norms and values thought there period...

I agree....Every homeschooled kid I've met is a social retard....I'm not saying every homeschooled kid is, but that's just my experience.

I don't like government getting in to peoples lives, but I actually don't think this is such a bad thing. I have cousins that were homeschooled and their parents are completely retarded and FOR SURE not qualified to even teach a dog to roll over let alone be responsible for the education of their kids so they can become productive citizens. So how can that be ok? All it does make a circle of retards that are not capable of being productive citizens.

I've come across a lot of homeschooled kids who I don't think anybody could tell were homeschooled. There are peer groups for homeschooled kids too...the ones who don't get involved in outside activities or other homeschool groups are usually the ones who end up being social retards.

I have never met a normal kid or a normal parent that homeschools. This issue has been topic of debate in my family because I have a brother who started this.....guess what? ....I love his kids, but they have poor relating skills. I think homeschool parents then look at this behavior and it becomes yet another excuse to continue to homeschool as they don't see the real issues.

I work with a guy and his wife homeschools their kids. They started with his son because he was getting picked-on at school. Now, he wants to put his son back in school because he realizes that the social gaps are getting even bigger.

A lot of these people are "cult-like" and often times very religious. They hang out in their own strange groups.

We all want what is best for our kids, but you also have to prepare them for life.

CA has lot of problems when it comes to education: poor family values, people who can't speak english, and it is the epicenter for home schooling. I think their situation is different then a lot of other places and may require government intervention.
