is cleaning the MAF sensor needed? How do u clean it?

Why does it need to be cleaned? My 02 has 73k miles and I have no problems!

get a can of "Electical Parts Cleaner" just spray it on and let it dry and for no reason ever touch the inside of the MAF ;)

It will sometimes need to be cleaned if you have an oil/cotton style filter (k&n)

And yes, electrical parts cleaner, no touchie!!!

A Ford Tecnician showed me a trick:

Pull the sensor out and pour rubbing alcohol over it. Let it dry and reinstall.

These things generally do not get dirty unless you get oil on them. It is not a normal maint. thing to do.

How we clean Maf sensors at work are as follows. Use Electrical parts cleaner and a small very soft brush. I found a small soft horsehair brush at a local craft store. You spray the elements and gently clean them by dabbing them with the brush. this does not damage the elements and gets them cleaner than just spraying them off. This works well for people that use oiled filters. I got this tip from a Ford Engineer about 4 years ago and have cleaned dozens of MAF sensors this way without any problems :D
