funny-azz thing a ricer said yesterday

So I'm at Imports Automotive getting a dyno run and this ricer comes in who's got a pretty neat little civic (330whp/200tq at some insane RPM). He chats up the guy at the desk and they banter a bit. Then the guy behind the desk says, "Hey you left the stickers from your stuff here. You want them on the car?"

I'm thinking oh boy here comes a sticker party and they'll all jizz on themselves. Well sorta... the ricer says "Are any of them straight edged and all white?" I would guess asking if they look like your average APC ricer sticker.

Guy behind the desk says no, they're real stickers that came with your stuff (stuff still not explained). Ricer says, never mind... I don't want those things.

Guess it's not in fashion to use real performance cars, real performance parts or real stickers from performance parts manufacturers. Burn.T = rice

lol what a moron, i wonder what kind of stickers he likes?

Does that car really run 130 less tq then hp? Holy crap. I want rice!

ha ha ha....that's crazy it has tha much hp over tq. I guess that's why they never want to run from a dig!

What ^? The guy behind the desk too? lol

Yeah... pretty much anytime you use forced induction to increase intake flow and subsequent HP numbers you get a lot of energy at high rpm but there's proportionally even less down low as a direct result. Part of that comes from preparing the engine to run 30-40lbs of boost which burns all manner of grunt. HP numbers at 3 to 5 times cid at rediculous RPM's in the 8-9K range will promise that low and mid range tq numbers will probably be next to if not slightly past abismal by comparison. That's also why my car feels as powerful as it does without burning 400hp worth of gas. :) If your engine is only 120cid and you make 420bhp at 9K rpm then you don't even start recording the dyno run till 3500+RPM so you don't see the 12hp and 45tq you get at 2k

And yes, this is why the ricers always want to run from a roll. Obviously Scooby's and evos and other AWD cars can chew us up from a dig on the streets. Not so much in proper track circumstances.

The guy behind the desk was just as shocked as me. He couldn't fathom the response either... kind of just blinked a couple times and that was that.

Yea, the torque difference is pretty normal for centri-blowers as well when you get into the higher hp range. Usually you'll see numbers like 650-700 hp and 550-600 tq. And dont forget, 200 tq is plenty for a 4 cylinder that weighs around 2k lbs. I bet it scoots. LOL but can you imagine the torque steer hahahaha

r3dn3ck 12-03-2007 09:10 AM

true enough. It would be pretty quick but it'd have to be geared like a semi to keep it in the powerband. I can't even make as little as 200tq at WOT... hell my tq passes 275 as soon as I mat the pedal. Imagine the damage that would do to a honda chassis. hehe I see a youtube legend in the future.

They did have a B16 block that had been wet sleeved with the thickest walled cylinder sleeves I've ever seen. Shop owner said it was going to be hooked into a POS and that that made him sad.
