bike issues
i want from people who have ridden/owned street bikes. i dont want any of this dont get one cause your going to kill yourself bullsh*t. i have ridden dirt bikes since i can remember, everything from a 50cc to about 450cc. i am having trouble choosing a street bike. my choices are suzuki/honda/yamaha 600cc bikes and the suzuki gsxr 750. i know for a fact that i am not getting a liter bike for the pure reason that i dont feel that my experiences allow me to harness that power, kinda like im afraid of 800+hp cobras (long story, went for a ride, was looking for second 5-pt. harness).
give me your input guys... o btw, i start my motorcycle safety class tomorrow night!!!!! :breakdancesmilie: |
I haven't rode a honda, the guys that i know who have, say they are ok.
A suzuki 750 IMO is the best all around. And the 06 +s look badass with their new style. The Yamaha r6 handles like no other, and it keeps a very nice design as well. For a begining rider your best bet woudl to be with a 600 or a 750, riding a dirtbike is a little different then riding a street bike... and when you have too much power between your legs, well, bad things happen. If I had the choice, I'd get a Suzuki GSXR 750. I have rode two, I loved the feel of them, had decent power, but not enough to launch me through the air in first gear. I've rode the r6, its great for turning, it'll take a GSXR or Honda on a corner any day. But they will rape it on a straight away. |
i know that dirt bikes are different than street bikes. i was just saying i know how to ride. lol. not like im some punk kid who doesnt know what 1 down 5 up means or that neutral is in between 1st and 2nd gear. lol

Go for the 750.
Considering you have some dirt bike history, go for the extra power from the start. Anyway after a year or so you'll be looking for a 1000. Trust me. Its not good to start out with a 1000, but after you ride for awhile or ride a 1000 you'll be hooked. Theres nothing quite like slowly cranking the throttle to bring the front wheel up. OK heres the deal, I came up rideing dirt bikes and 4 wheelers most of my adolesent life, all the way till HS graduation. Well a friend of mine had a Katana 600 (weak arse bike I know) I rode it twice down a gravel road, so I had to take it slow ofcoarse. I had another friend that was gonna sell me his 750 Honda Shadow and it was a hellofa steal. I got on his Shadow to "test drive" it before I bought it. I thought.... I have rode many dirt bikes and even rode that Katana too.... I can handle this Shadow..... How different can it be? Right?....I got the damn thing on the highway and IMEDIATELY noticed.....Im not on a dirt bike anymore. Street bikes and dirt bikes have a HUGE difference in feel. Well knowing I am on the highway with cars and 18 wheelers all around me and not recognizing any of the feed back from the road. I started to freeze up. I had a slight left hand turn to make and by this time I was only doing like 50mph, I was so scared stiff, that I couldnt turn the handle bars..... I kept leaning.... and leaning... and leaning but I kept the handle bars straight (lol) So I wasnt going to make that turn. Luckily my buddy was on the bike with me and he saved us before we wiped out. I told him get me the fukk OFF this mofo! lol Needless to say I didnt buy that bike. But I still find myself wanting to learn how to ride on the road. Trust me when I say.... dirt bikes and street bikes are different like night and day. They dont turn the same, they dont accellerate the same, breaking is way different. To me one would have to relearn everything. Anyway... all that is just my .02c worth!

lol, that was a funny story. i've nvr road a sportbike. but i do like the gsxr750's. seem to be a good all around bike.

If you can control your hand on the throttle then you have no problem in having a 1 liter bike. I learn in my friends Yamaha R1. When I did have the opportunity to buy my bike I went with an R6. It has been a few months now and I want to sell or trade her for an R1. I went with Yahama becuase the design is sick and its handling is amazing. Its all personal preference though. Test them out to see which you feel more comfort on. Good luck and ride safe.
