Credit card/ATM Card Fraud??

Anyone ever been a victim of credit/ATM card fraud? Got any horror stories? Did you get your money back in the end?

I just happen to look at my online bank transactions the other day and realized there were two charges that for sure didn't come from me. The first charge was at at Pep Boys in Pasadena, CA for $509 and the second was at McDonalds in Los Angeles for $8 (both about 6-7 hours away from me). Anyway, I cancelled the card and hopefully after the bank does the investigation I'll get my money back.

I'm just wondering why they only charged $517 cause there is quite a bit of money in my account. Maybe they were trying to fly under the radar or really stupid and didn't think to clean me out before I noticed.

They were probably limited to where they could use the card. I'm sure most people at Pep Boys don't even check for ID. I haven't had a fraud problem but I know my grandpa has. After the investigation was done, he got all the money back. I'm sure you can prove you were never down there when the charges took place

did you lose it in LA?

bummer deal for you mang. I had one problem... my sister gave her copy of my card to a tweeker. He's not spending any money for a long time though. Prison time had a way of stopping credit card fraud habit.

just last week i got a call from this risk management place saying that someone in romania tried charging some money to my card....was the wierdest thing since ive never been there or bought anything from there. the transaction was declined so they didnt get money, but i had to close the card and tell the bank to get me a new one.

sucks because i was going to order my springs, but i dont have a card yet :(

no, the crazy thing is I didn't lose the card. I never let anyone use it or anything. I think I was a victim of some gas station credit card scam or some waiter or waitress snagged the number or something. I have no idea because I never lost the card, that's why I couldn't figure out how they were using it at actual stores. Besides online purchases I'm not sure how they can even do that without physically having the card.

That is weird. Was the Pep Boys purchase an online transaction?

nope, it was actually at the store in Pasadena....Wells Fargo said that sometimes if they have a friend that works their or something they can use the card number without actually having the card. They will go back and look at the record, look for a signature and video and then find the bastards

thats sh*tty. All that because so F#ckhead is to pathetic to get a real job and afford things on his own and have a respectable life.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't stores held liable for not checking ID? In your case, it sounds like just a stolen number. But unfortunately for businesses, if they fail to confirm the right identity, they pay for the mistake.

never had any fraud on any of my cards. My problem was me and my wife, using them like a slot machine. If I have a lot of activity, or large purchase on my card, Visa will call me to confirm the transactions. Maybe they should use the fingerprint method like they do for ner do well fare recipients. You know the ones who hold up the line at food lion and such.. GET JOBS! dammit.. :godamnit: oops hope I didn't offend too much....:t:

Off topic. But Rebel, I saw a stang last night nearly identical to yours but with a shaker hood scoop and 18" chromes. I could hardly keep it in my pants.

That sounds about right, but who knows. I think my bank is trying to find the signature used and store video. I hope they catch the bastards.

Fraud is really out of control! My dad pretty much had his identity stolen. Someone got his Social Security number and sold it to an illegal in San Diego! That's the part of illegal immigration we don't hear too much about, but it's a big problem.

i've had almost that same thing happen to me twice on the same card (same company, different card numbers). the first time, it was almost 2 grand, and the 2nd time, about 500. it was on a credit card, they did an investigation, and i didn't have to pay any of it. i had the cards all the time, to my knowledge hadn't ever used them for online purchases, and hadn't actually used the card in about 1 year the first time. the second time, i had never used the card, it wasn't even activated yet. i dunno... most banks are pretty good about zero fraud liability, though.
