what is overwieght though? Im 5'11" 250lbs and most doctors would say thats overwight, but i play college football and most of my mass is muscle. a lot of people will be over weight but not 75%

Alot of people classify overweight by looking at BMI, which is a complete and utter farce, you beign a perfect example. However, we all know that america has a weight problem, but states passing laws against causes of it (aside from people's desire to over eat) will actually help america. I say this in complete seriousness, as a fiscal conservative against passing laws that put the governements reach to far into American's lives. Banning trans fat was a step in the right direction... |

i agree, I'm not really sure what the term "overweight" means, but from what I've seen they expect everyone to be a freaking bean pole. There are legit concerns about people being overweight....diabetes being the biggest one. When I was growing up you hardly ever heard about kids having diabetes, now it's a common thing. Our public health department published some stats that said if your a child that was born in 2000 on you have a 1/3 chance of getting diabetes, and if your a child of color you have a 1/2 chance of having diabetes. Jesus, that's scary stuff.
People need to stop going to starbucks and sucking down 700-1,000 calorie coffee's! The fact is that we live in the fattest country in the world and chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension are taxing our health care system big time! Im considered over weight from a BUI standings. But im a lifter so its mostly muscle. My body fat is only 14%. And i will never be over weight been there done that in high school playing football i ate whatever to stay big for the line. Now days i would rather be cut and lift heavier weights. The real question is why is it so easy to get fat but so hard to loose weight?

doesent help that a lot of the jobs out there involve sitting on your ass in an office building.
honestly, i think any office building should be required by law to have some sort of a workout facility for people to use during lunch. hell, a couple weight sets, a few treadmills, an elliptical, and a rowing machine would be more than enough. i wish i could get more exercize, but having 2 kids to deal with and working full time, making the time to go to the gym is very difficult, and i dont have room for a home gym. doesent help that eating healthy is a lot more expencive too. then again, im 6ft and 215... not exactly a fatass, but im no bean pole either. |

In my opinion with kids being overweight, I think part of the problem is parents not letting their kids go out and do something really physical cause they don't want them to get hurt or they are protecting them fromt he outside world. When I was in elementary school up until middle school, my friends and I would be out at the park playing tackle football almost everyday. Now I can drive by a school or park and see no kids playing whatsoever. You don't see kids running around playing tag, hide and go seek, football, baseball, or whatever anymore. At least in my area.

Jogging, situps, and pushups are effective and simple things you can do that require nothing but your own willpower. Got kids? Bring em along when you go jogging, or hell go ride bikes or something. I have nothing wrong with lazy people, granted I'm not exactly exactly in the best physical condition myself, but lazy people who complain about stuff like not being able to walk far and using an electric scooter can piss off and die for all I care. (that is if it's not an actual PHYSICAL condition that hinders them, being obesely overweight and not doing anything about it IMO is not a "condition") |

For once, well maybe twice, I agree with PCola. Amazing I know. There is always time to do some form of exercise. Just pushing the baby in the stroller for awhile is doing something active. It is hard to get to the gym some days. It's mainly a self motivating thing. I find it much easier if you take some work out clothes, stick em in your car and go straight to the gym after work. If you stop at home first you always have the temptation of just sitting on the couch and saying forget it. Using the elliptical for like 20 minutes, you burn like 250 calories in just that alone.

The amount of calories you burn really depends on your weight, Takes a lot more energy for bigger people to do the same things little people do (little people..lol!)
150lb guy might burn 150 calories running a mile, 250lb guy will probably burn over 200+ Which is why I don't think counting calories works. |

Lol... cant jog, knees are screwed up. About the only cardio i can do without killing my knees is an elliptical, and i dont have 800 bucks to buy a decent one that wont **** up my knees. A and if anyone here thinks it is easy to go running with a 6 year old and an infant, yer a retard. lol Everyone here with kids understands something that you non kid having people dont. something that i diddnt understand untill recently. Here is a typical outing to the grocery store when you dont have kids. 1) Go to the store. 10 min 2) shop - 30 min 2) come home 10 min. total time, 50 min. Less than an hour. Here is how it works with a 6 year old and an infant. 1) Tell tyler(age 6) that we are going to store. - 1 min 2) Argue with tyler that we are going weather he likes it or not = 15 min 3) finally get tyler on the ball to change out of his pj's and put on his pants = 10min 4) get the child seat - 2 min 5) go through diaper bag and figure out what is missing. - 5 min 6) search for missing stuff from diaper bag due to previous outing - 15 min 7) argue with tyler to fin his god damn socks already and get ready 10 min 8) help tyler find his shoes 10 min 9) help tyler with his shoes only to find out they are 7 damn month old shoes and too small for his canoe wearing feet!!. 5 min 10) find stylers correct shoes - 10 min 11) Fight with tyler to get his shoes on - 5min 12) baby starts crying. time spend trying to determine if he is hungry or cranky. 2 min. 13) load up bottle and feed logan, he is too small still to hold the bottle. - 30min 14) Finally get logan fed just to have him barf the whole bottle out over your shirt, pants, his shirt, his blanet, the couch. 20 min 15) Grab rags and try to clean up mess while god damn dogs are trying to get to lick it up, logan is still crying, TYLER PUT YOUR GOD DAMN SHOES BACK ON!!!! 20 min 16) Change vomit soaked clothes, - 5 min. 17) change logans vomit soaked clothes - 10 min, find dirty diaper +5 min. 18) take logan's nose tube off the oxygen concentrator and on portable tank and get tank setup. - 5 min 19) get dogs put away, logan in carseat, tyler is finally ready, get out to the car, load up tyler, diaper bag and logan. -5 min 20) Drive to store 10min 21) Shop - 30min + 30min because a 6yr old asks every question in the planet and drags his feet and throws an attitude because you wont buy him 3 different types of pop tarts. 22) pay for everything, deal with logan and tyler getting them loaded up 10min drive home 10min 23) enter house, put childseat on couch, tell tyler to go play, and mix a stiff drink 5 min. Total time = 280 min - 4 hours and 40 min. Trust me, just going to th store is a 3-4 hour deal with my girlfriend helping. the whole ability to just... get up and do something... jesus man... i miss it... i really really miss it. Maybe it would be different with just a 6 year old. maybe different with just an infant. but the two combined are a time wasting force to be rekoned with. guys with familys... am i right? or am i right? |

plus being gone all day at work i want to go home and see my girl and son. untill you have kids you cant understand. lol... i certainly diddnt... but i did recently buy an excercise bike. I try to use it as much as i can, but im lucky if i can get it twice a week. I have all the home chorse, 2 kids and a full time job to deal with as well as side income doing illustrations. time just isnt there anymore. not like it was a year ago not to mention, downtime is absolutly needed. you cant go full force 24/7 and that is how i feel already |

Im no triathlete, but i dont exactly get winded by running up a few flights of stairs. Ive got a gut, and ive always had one, but it never gave me any issues with the ladies either. Im pretty comfortable with who i am and how i look, i just think corperations should be required to include a small gym in thier office buildings. It would give a very convenient way for some of these fatasses i work with and myself to go burn off some energy. it would promote better health and get people in better shape. It would also mean lower insurance costs because healthy in shape people get sick less, therefore they go to the doctor less, therefore the health insurance premiums would be lower, which would save the company money. It would probably pay for itself in a few months. Plus after dealing with a particularly frustrating customer i could go a few rounds on the heavy bag and knock out some stress. |
