Fired

So yup, after 8 months of working for the same company, I got fired today..

Basically, we've been doing a demolition in a basement downtown, the building is atleast 12000 sq. ft. drywall on the ceilings, walls, everything was being cleared out.

This building is over 100 years old, and its got an old heavy ass freight elevator thats a hand crank.

Well normally on a project like this you'd expect a crew of..10 guys probably, this guy had 3. Me, and two other guys.

To start with all that lead up to it, lets say, I punctured my foot, had to go get a Tetanus shot, the other guy got into a carwreck, tore some legiments in his good arm, and the other guy, just doesn't know how to work.

So today we're loading this broken drywall into wheel barrows (2) a bigass tub (1) and a little 40 gallon trashcan, and hand cranking it all up, and tossing into the back of a small dump trailer.

He comes back starts bitching about how long it takes, well, I go confront him and tell him to ease up on us, we're doing everything we can, and that the situation sucked to begin with. He escalates the arguement, so me, getting pissed, ask him "OH AND BY THE WAY WHERE THE F**K IS MY WATER THATS SUSPOSED TO BE SUPPLIED?"

State law requires that an employer supplies his employees with water and ice. He didn't.

That basically did it, and he fired me on the spot. =x

Hows everyone elses day?

That sucks man. At least you won't have to work for an asshole anymore. Hopefully you can find something else pretty quickly and work for someone who is a little more understanding.

Call the State labor office and tell them what you have been subject to while you have been working. Let them know you were fired for questioning your safety and rights as a worker with your boss.

You'd be surprised how quickly you can get anyone to turn around when the labor office steps in, especially in a construction setting.

I don't really want to work for him anymore, I mean, now it'll be badblood. I more a less was standing up for myself, as well as the two other guys I was working with, I'll be calling the labor board for sure, I wouldn't mind watching him go down. I'm also sure hes going to appeal my unemployment, so I'll be dealing with that one too.

I'm hoping I can find another good job, I'll probably look part time, I'd love to be able to go back to school.

If any of you are injured and are suffereing you should see a workers compensation attorney to get proper treatment. If he is making you work and not treating work related injuries out of his pocket it against the law.

SnTBakosFinest 07-03-2007 09:47 PM

I was injured, but the workers compensation covered me.

I told him he wasn't getting his tools till I got my check. Hes playing my game now.

And I just got hired onto another company. Girlfriends parents next door neighbor owns a electrical company, he just hired me, making more per hour then what I was. ;)

Legally if you get fired, your employer must have your paycheck for you within 24 hours. I would take his ass to court.
