Oh great here come the conspiracy theories.....if it were a terrorist attack why do it there and not on the Bay Bridge? Why not do it during peak commute hours for maximum loss of life?

With that said the driver of the truck has a very interesting past and I'm sure the FBI is drilling this guy.

Of course theres liquid metal, the truck was burning at 27,000 degrees. That temperature melts things.

Diagonal cuts? Well the freeway IS built in sections. Cracks are supposed to form at each end so splitting doesnt occur. That is the weak point for something to give.

you wont see much debrit from a tanker truck BLEVE cleanup. After the firefighters are done, cleanup is waiting for the chief to give the scene up to police, and police give up the scene to cleanup. the picture is also taken from ground level over 100+ ft away.

..when any gas burns..the fire is naturally hotter..the metal beams used are easily melted with an acetelene torch..

The angles you see is because the overpasses/bridges are set in different sections, when one part of that peice dumps, the rest of it is likely to dump as well.

And yes, firefighters clean, cops take their pictures ect, and then the cleanup comes around because this is a fairly major route and reconstruction normally starts almost immediately.

BTW... I listened to one of the structural engineers that's working on the inspection and rebuild blabbing on the radio. He said that (like any sane person would expect) the steel wasn't melted it simply got over 700 degrees and became a little more flexible than the thing could support. It failed as designed in a small easily repaired section with minimal collateral damage.

You don't have to melt steel to make it into silly putty. You just have to make it hotter than the kitchen oven. Not hard.

It also appears that the lower structure (880N-80w) was not significantly damaged and will be repaired instead of demolished and rebuilt. That'll save us a good bit of time and headache.

I'm just glad I don't ever have to drive out that way.

I just hope they fix it fast.....if that happened in SoCal it would have been fixed the same day! ha ha ha. From what I hear it will be fixed pretty fast. The county declared an emergency yesterday which allows us to recieve more state and federal funding so I'm expecting the process to go pretty fast....maybe not SoCal fast, but pretty fast.
