Default Mustang GT500 "SuperSnake" To Be Produced - Up To 725HP

Ford Media

SHELBY AUTOS AND FORD RACING TO BUILD 600+ HP STREET LEGAL SHELBY GT500 "SUPER SNAKES"

Las Vegas – April 27, 2007 – Shelby Automobiles will use newly-developed Ford Racing GT500 performance packs to help transform a limited number of 2007 and 2008 Ford Shelby GT500’s into fire breathing “Super Snake” coupes. The Super Snake post-title package will include enhancements to the Ford Shelby GT500’s handling, styling and power; tuning options will range from a warranted 600 HP V8 to over 725 HP (unwarranted). Only a limited number of Super Snakes will be built per model year at the Shelby Automobiles facility in Las Vegas beginning in late 2007.

“My team at Shelby Automobiles is always working on new ways to build better performing cars” said Carroll Shelby. “I told them that I wanted to build a vehicle that could blow the doors off of most anything on the planet. By partnering with Ford Racing, we’re giving enthusiasts a Mustang with that level of performance.”

Working together at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and in Dearborn, Ford Racing and Team Shelby developed the aggressive suspension and engine package specifically for the car.

“Mustang enthusiasts are demanding more from both Ford Racing and Shelby Autos” said Jamie Allison, Manager of Ford Racing Performance Group. “The GT500 Super Snake package, with its higher horsepower levels and balanced track-inspired tuning, satisfies those demands and then some … in a uniquely Ford – Shelby way.”

In 1967, Shelby American built one 427-powered GT500 “Super Snake” for Mel Burns Ford. Carroll Shelby drove it at the Goodyear test track for tire promotion film production. That car reached lap speeds of over 150 miles per hour and a top speed of 170 miles per hour. The new Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake will be equally potent.

“The name ‘Super Snake’ is legendary because the one that Shelby built was the pinnacle of muscle cars in 1967,” added Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Automobiles. “We’re bringing that concept forward 40 years for customers who own a Ford Shelby GT500. We’ll give their car amazing new capabilities.”

Ford Racing and Team Shelby developed the GT500 Super Snake package which will include:

* Ford Racing Supercharger upgrade kit (SuperPack 600) producing over 600 horsepower and 590 ft.-lbs. of torque
* 6-speed manual transmission with 3.73:1 rear axle ratio
* Ford Racing performance exhaust system
* Ford Racing Handling Pack offering unique performance suspension tuning including Dynamic adjustable dampers, lowering springs, tuned stabilizer bars, and front strut tower brace
* Shelby-designed Alcoa 20-inch wheels
* Ford Racing short-throw shifter
* Baer 6 piston brakes with Shelby cast calipers and larger rotors
* Front brake cooling ducts
* Unique carbon composite hood featuring classic Shelby design
* ‘Shelby’ lettering across the front edge of hood and rear decklid
* 'Super Snake' vehicle badging
* Carroll Shelby signature embroidered headrests, floor mats and other Shelby designed components
* Official Shelby CSM dash plate

In addition, while the full Super Snake package will be available exclusively through Shelby Automobiles, many of the products comprising the Super Snake package will be available from Shelby Automobiles and Ford Racing starting in June.

Yeah, I call BS. That's a pretty crappy chop.

After talking to a Ford rep. at the auto show that was here last month. We should have:

The KR, The Hertz production car, The Shelby GT, and the Bullitt.

Those models are supposed to be released before the big 're-design' in 2009 or 2010.

do you have any details about the bullitt or the 2009 re-design? I'm really wanting to maybe get a bullitt, but I'm also very interested in the re-design. Just gotta find away to keep the mach also...hmmm...probably not going to happen.

From talking to the ford reps. it should be a fastback inspired design. I think that is why there has been no talk about a Mach I believe they are going to wait until after the redesign for another Mach.

That's what Ill be waiting for.

As far as the new engine packages, I really haven't heard much of anything about the V8's. Im sure that they will find some way to pull some more HP out of the 4.6 because I doubt that they will go back to a 302 or anything like that.

The new V6's are supposedly going to be pushing out somewhere in the neighborhood of 250-270HP..

Can you imagine that though? A new fastback Mach?!?

That would be sick! I wonder if they will give the mach a little more HP than the 08 bullitt...a 4 valve 5.4....hello torque! ha ha

Oh yeah.. As far as the Bullitt, the rep. really couldn't say a whole lot about it.. Im sure it will be similar to the old Bullitt, she did say it would prob. be similar colors with the black, dfg, and blue. As far as the engine Combo, who knows? Umm, If I had to guess I'd say it would be a 4v N/A.

And as far as what alot of people are guessing for the redesign, I really don't think that Ford would go with the Giugiaro design.. That to me would be wayyy off base for what they have set up with the retro design.. Plus it mirrors the Camaro way too much. IMHO

You guys missed the C-Scoop on the rear quarter, and front brake calipers.

But yeah,thats a terrible chop. Look at the fog lights on the "Super Snake". They look cartoonish .

Besides,it just yet another badass ride from Ford that no one but rich asses will be able to afford. Thank you dealerships !!

The ZO7 will still probably tear the super snake up. It will be way lighter and will kill it on a road course as well. I'm not a huge fan of the 05+ stangs. To big and heavy. I would rather have an 03 cobra than GT500. Then again if someone wanted to give me a Gt500, I would not turn them down.

i know i do not own a ford, but i did read in a magazine that they were going to come out with a 435 hp in all mustangs with the exception of the specialty cars. and v6's will be like a special order item. just what i read. and they also said it would probably be the fastback type. not for sure what magazine it was, but if they do put that engine in a fastback whue it will be a fast car for a min. buck! and i drive a 04 gto, heavy a$$ car. but it would be nice to see ford make a bigger engine for the motoring public than the 4.6 which is not a bad engine. just needs to be bigger. good luck guy's on what they give you. kerry!!!

Sounds great as far as the 435hp, but the V6 will never be a 'specialty' car. It IS the Mustang market, it is what has kept the car alive.

Im prob. going to wait until the re-design before I purchase another Mustang, in the process of trying to sell mine and get a DD.

That's exactly what I'm doing....I can't wait to see the re-design, but I'm hesitant to buy a GT without knowing what special edition stangs are coming out. I really want another Mach 1 if they make one.
