Okay Heres the Deal

I always wanted a Mustang GT. I've been looking for one within my price range for awhile now. I love the Steeda Mustangs, and coincidentally i found one. I'm a bit skeptical about buying private seller because its alot of money (to me) to take a chance on. I went and test drove it yesterday and it rode well, a bit too loud for my taste though. Its a 2000 with 50k on it.

Heres whats on it:
- Steeda 4130 Chrome-Moly strut tower brace
- Steeda G-Trac bar
- Steeda 1.375" tubular big front sway-bar
- Steeda adjustable rear sway-bar
- Steeda aluminum upper and lowers
- Steeda offset A-arm bushings
- Steeda X-2 ball joints
- Steeda cross braces
- Steeda 4130 Chrome-Moly subframe connectors
- Steeda bump/stear kit
- Steeda steering rack bushing replacment end links
- Steeda Polyurethane steering rack bushings
- Steeda Polyurethane bushing end links
- BBK frame connectors with seat brackets
- BBK 70mm throttle body
- Cold-air induction
- Off road H-pipe
- Steeda underdrive pulleys
- Diablosport Predator programmer
- Flowmaster mufflers 2-chamber
- 4" Harwood cowl induction bolt-on hood
- 17x9 Mustang Cobra R wheels
- Aftermarket front grill
- Steeda billet name plate
- Steeda billet defroster button
- Steeda billet door switch sets
- Steeda billet A/C control knobs
- Steeda aluminum pedal covers
- Ford Motorsports seat belt covers
- Viper alarm with remote start

Alot right? I'm just very skeptical because this guy did all the work himself, and he didn't look very educated to say the least. The car was fairly dirty, mainly because its located in a hick town, where its really dusty and full of dirt roads. The price was listed at 12,000 but hes willing to go down to 9,500. Should i give it a chance? Im only 18, with not much money to spend :-/

Id never buy a modded car unless the majority of the work was done by a shop I like. Reason for this is because you dont know how many corners the guy cut, whether he install the mods correctly or not, etc. All of my friends who bought modded cars sold them.

He seemed to know what he was talking about, since he talked my ear off. He was a chewing tobacco, trailer trash type of dude though, haha.

I'd get me a stock one and fix it up myself of buy me a 03-04 cobra..:)

Steeda97 04-11-2007 03:36 PM

Yeah im pretty sure an 03-04 Cobra isn't in my price range. But i can't seem to find any GT's anywhere near here. Well at least no good ones that are in my price range.

spike_africa 04-11-2007 04:19 PM

i would buy it, hell hes got a ton of mods allready done for ya. I wouldnt bother asking us, its weither or not you feel the guy knows cars and what he is doing or if he has no idea whats going on.

Maybe thats a sign that you shouldnt be getting one right now?

Just my $.02 .....

Take it to a local speedshop, or repair shop.. If the guy wants to sell it he shouldn't mind if you do that.. Most places will charge you $20-30 to give the car a good once over, check the motor, trans, rear end, suspension, etc.. Im sure they could just as easily check some of the aftermarket pieces and make sure that they were atleast installed correctly.

The next thing I would do is make sure he took care of regular maintenance. See if he made any kind of records of Oil changes/ tune-ups..

Just be careful when looking at a car with alot of aftermarket Mods, especially if they have no record of how they were installed.

zigzaggthefag321 04-11-2007 05:36 PM

sometimes tons of mods mean the car was beat on. but maybe not. but I agree with Spike.

MattJ 04-11-2007 05:38 PM

buy it.

Hes correct, I went to buy a stang in different state it turned out it was really screwed up even after the owner claimed it was in perfect condition. Shop owners were helpful and did more then they were suppose to. Hopefully it turns out better for you.

That is not a Steeda Mustang. It is a Mustang with a bunch of Steeda parts. There is a HUGE difference. A real Steeda was one done by Steeda and sold at a Ford dealer that way brand-new.

What you have here is a modded car.

Take mine for example. If my car was 100% stock with the miles I have, it might be worth $12k. But, with my mods, it might be worth.......$12k. In fact, modded cars are sometimes worth less.

Insurance companies have even reduced pay-outs on cars because they are modded.

Buying a stock car and modding it is not smart from a financial perspective. Buying one that is can result in getting a great value on a car. That car has more then $10k worth of work done on it, yet you could buy it for that much. You are just taking a bigger chance and what the car would be worth down the road.

My advice is that you don't buy a car that you can't afford to fix...modded or not. If $10k is a real stretch for you, then find a nice Fox Body for $5k and call it a day. Pay the thing off as fast as you can, keep it a few years, and then sell it for $4k and buy something newer if you want.

Steeda97 04-11-2007 07:12 PM

I'll let you guys know. Thanks for the advice.

I see what i can do in terms of bringing it to a mechanic. As for money, i have cash for this car. I start my career (electrician) come June, so i'll be pretty good when it comes to money. So maybe i should buy a stock GT and then when i have a bit more money then mod it myself. I hope I make the right decision.

Thanks

$9500 is a good deal on a GT, it doesn't have alot of high mileage.. Take it to a shop, find out if there is anything wrong with it. If they don't find any major mechanical problems I would prob. jump on it...

Blake, how often do you find a Fox in decent shape for $4-5,000? Most foxes in my area are ragged out pieces of junk... Just curious...

Steeda97 04-12-2007 08:24 AM

Yeah im not a fan of the fox bodies, i'm more into the 99-04's, i like them better than the 05-up. Except for that Shelby GT500KR you know..

jjtgiants 04-12-2007 03:17 PM

Nope. I work with controls/industrial electrical work, not cars, punk.

StormsGT 04-12-2007 04:48 PM

They teach that in Jr high?

jjtgiants 04-12-2007 05:03 PM

Ok, I'm curious of what the beef is between Steeda97 and StormGT???

StormsGT 04-12-2007 05:17 PM

Okay, its not really a beef.He just was talking trash about some guy he don't even really know. Hell,he's only 18. What can he know about anything? Let alone what someone else knows about cars. The mods listed are not even a big deal. It just bugged me.

jjtgiants 04-12-2007 05:19 PM

ah I see. cool. Just curious cause he only had 11 posts. ha ha ha It's kinda like when Greg first joined.....every single once of his posts bothered me, but now I just think he's funny as hell.

Its a bit more complicated than cars, even though i love both.

But I have respect for those who have more knowledge than me, in this case about cars anyway (and only cars). So i'll stop. Im new here anyway.
