What would you buy for around 40k

Looks like Im going to get something to haul the family around. What do you think? Anybody feeling the Trailblazer SS with the LS2. Doesnt have to be an SUV but must be a 4 door.

silverstang04 03-05-2007 07:30 PM

I like those things, but I think I like the Dodge srt 8 suv more that the trail blazer. Not sure on the prices of the two though.

Must See 03-05-2007 07:42 PM

get a subura STI.....

03DSG 03-05-2007 07:59 PM

I guess ask yourself " what do i need in my new car, and what do i want in my new car?" split the two and make a list then look for a car based on what satisfies the needs first and the wants next. you've already started...it must have for doors. ok what else, how many kids, do they play sports, any related travel with those sports, vacations, camping, towing a boat? high end suped up models are sweet, but dont mean shit when they dont suit your needs.

I remember when i sold chrylers/jeeps several years ago and a couple came in wanting a wrangler rubicon. they were dead set on it, so i was more than happy to sell them a $30k jeep with almost every off road option there was, even though this thing would never and i mean never go off the pavement. (personally i think these kind of people are retarded) about 4 months later the same couple came in, they wanted to GIVE back the jeep, just give it back and we would call the whole thing a wash. they started saying " with the two kids in the back seat there is no space for any thing, we cant even go shopping as a family in it." " how about we just give it back." for which i replied "sure you can leave it here, but make sure you make the payments because you'll hurt your credit." with that they looked a me puzzled. I said " I didnt break your arm to buy it, you wanted it so bad, who was I to say no. besides this isn't kmart, you dont get a car too try for two months and get to bring it back like nothing happened, you signed a contract with chrysler. you can trade it in for a new car, sell it yourself or deal with it and keep it." well after that they were so pissed off they left, Im not really sure what happened to them. but the moral of the story, think about what you need first and then what you want second and you'll be fine.

Oh yes....we all love the mighty car sales industry. The place where people can't the tell the difference between needs and wants.

Venom, If it were me, I would spend $25k on something really nice and used and spend the difference on a new Harley.

BUT, if you twisted my arm, I would prolly get a Volvo SUV for $40k. Rocket-ship SUV's? Just never quite understood them.

MattJ 03-05-2007 08:18 PM

put 20k away in savings and buy something used for 20k. thats what i would do.

TEXASPAUL 03-05-2007 08:30 PM

my dad/ our family really likes our 2004 Eddie Bauer Expedition....

96gtstang 03-05-2007 08:54 PM

already som1 said, expeditions are good..i have driven 2 different expeditions and ther definitely nice trucks, as well are the dodge durangos, my dads friend has one with the hemi in it, that truck moves out and its got alot of class as well..id prolly choose the durango over the expedition if it were my choice but both are excellent suv's

that thing is fast 0-62 in under 5 seconds that thing could take on a new gt

I looked at the SRT8 and its south of 59k due to the dealer markup, same story as the GT500. Some owners have purchased their SS for 22-25 used which seems like a good deal. I like the BMWs but eventually this vehicle might be used to tow stuff around. I currently have a Durango and its too big for us but a great car which I would recommend to anyone looking for something in that size.

Its tough as my wife and I rather buy a sports car so a compromise would be something along the SS. This is not going to be the last car I buy but something to haul stuff around.

caballo 03-05-2007 11:17 PM

for under 40k I'd be tempted to get a used Harley Edition F150...

four doors and supercharged with a good amount of changed left over...

04DarkShadowGT 03-06-2007 06:15 AM

My two would be either a Black Charger SRT-8 or a black G35 sedan.

Teal_Beast 03-06-2007 06:36 AM

venom 03-06-2007 06:47 PM

Looks like I might be getting a E500.

Cheddarbob 03-07-2007 02:06 PM

BENZ make it AMG lol

mcmmotorsports 03-07-2007 03:21 PM

Chrysler 300c, not the SRT8.

GREG@SN95 03-07-2007 10:32 PM

the envoys are very nice... especially the denalis

Milos 03-08-2007 04:27 AM

I'd stick with the Mustang... a black 2007 GT fully loaded with premium everything, then put the rest to *minor* upgrades, then whats left of that to insurance, licensing, ect.

venom 03-09-2007 04:39 PM

Finally narrowed it down, Ill post a pic when I get it. Someone here guessed it.

SpinMedia 03-11-2007 05:12 PM

Still think you should get a BMW, and if you cant afford it ask the wifey for the diff, sure she dosn't mind.
