overdrive button

not sure if this is the right place to post this so someone can move it if it needs to be. I'm having some trouble installing a new overdrive button in my 02 GT. a couple months ago i was holding onto the shifter when i hit something and it ripped the top of the thing off and ripped the overdrive button out cutting the wires. So finally i got a new button from my local ford shop. i took apart the center console and installed the new one plugged everything in. Im wondering if anyone has ever done this before because when i turn the car on and push the overdrive button its not registering. the little light in the dash doesnt come on and the transmission still shifts into that extra gear when im cruising. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have cut the wires and spliced in a overdrive button in a different location. but all I did really was instead of unplugging the connection because it was to hard to reach I cut it right in the middle and those two wires I kinda figured out how they work when I did that. If you touch the two wires together o/d shuts off tap it together a second time and it turns back on which led me to believe the switch/button is momentary.

You might want to check your connection and make sure you snapped it in there good. Thats what it sounds like in your case. So check it out again I know how much of a pain it is to get to that plug.
