WANTED: Racers and crew.

Hey guys and others:

As the bulk of you know I'm building my car to run in the Silver State Classic Challenge. I'm targeting the upcoming September run for myself. I would like to see if some of you would like to go out and try your hand at the race or maybe serve as crew to those of us that are.

This is just a feeler yet... I have me, 1 friend and best wishes supporting my attempt. What I'm hoping for is some peeps that want to make a MustangBoards.com team, go out as a team, compete as a multi-car team and crew each others cars. We'll need an experienced mechanic, someone willing to hand out water and food, a runner, and well wishers.

Getting even 3-4 cars fielded would be insanely cool and a lot of fun. We're talking about 90 miles of no speed limits and a helluva good time for all. I may even be able to wrench out accomodations for 1-2 guys while we're in the greater Vegas area.

Discuss.

so is this between northern california and nevada i assume? what dates in september? i'm somewhat interested.

The course is entirely within nevada's stark barren interior. Dates for this year are September 13-16 on Highway 318 from Lund to Hiko.

There are a couple vids on youtube that show what you can expect to see and do. Search for Silver State Classic and you'll see them.

sounds really interesting, do you have any more info on this?? so your looking for other cars and some people for a pit crew???

r3dn3ck 01-30-2007 01:39 PM

for all the details go to www.silverstateclassic.com

I'm looking for pit/course crew and drivers and cars. I'll be driving my own car as I'm fairly confident that I can qualify. Others may not have any experience with corner carving and may elect to have someone else drive their car in the event (this is VERY common). Pit crew and course crew are also always needed.

Pit guys will be there pretty much to get everything buttoned down for the run as cars need to show up ready to race. Course crew are there to provide safety and checkpoint staff during the race and they are the ONLY people other than racers and navigators allowed into the restricted area during the race so they get the rockin view of some hard core go-fast action.

Damn I wish I was closer..my car probably wont be done until next year anyways but that sounds cool as hell

Codiddy 01-30-2007 06:36 PM

This sounds interesting. I would be willing to pit for you or something. I am by no means an expert mechanic, But I would be willing to help however I could. It sounds like a fun experience and a good way to learn alot though.

Edit: just saw it's in Ely, NV. I am totally down and can get to there.

synister123 01-30-2007 07:23 PM

sounds cool, good luck to anyone who runs it :D

r3dn3ck 01-31-2007 06:52 AM

cool that's one.

I'd like to field a full 3-4 car team so we may want to approach MT/AM for any sponsorships/stickers/well wishes they can provide. If anyone has any ideas on whether or not that's a useable idea, let me know via PM.

We'll all be limited to the 110 class or below which limits out absolute maximum speed to 124mph but finishing this one means we can step up to the 115+ classes for the next year and get tech speeds (maximum allowed) that are higher.

Codiddy is down for it... mega props to co for that. I'll take you on my pit crew. If you're not afraid/concerned/unwilling you can have the backup navigator slot as well. I have a navigator signed up but if he gets sidelined I'll need a 2nd. LMK. Your job as navigator will be manning GPS, stopwatches, computer, monitoring guages, feeding me fries, lighting my smokes and changing CD's, keeping us on time and up to speed.

Do we have anyone that wants to run their own car? This isn't a true "race" you're not competing directly against other people for speed... you're competing against yourself to try to get the perfect time. There's no doubt we'll all finish the race... it doesn't get too be a major issue until the 130+ classes when you can't go less than 100mph for any length of time.

Codiddy 01-31-2007 01:03 PM

I would be willing to take the back up navigator slot. I can run a GPS and man a mean disc changer. this sounds like alot of fun, i hope we can get some more of the west coast people interested

jareds98gt 01-31-2007 01:55 PM

im down for it. sounds like a good time. i wont be able to put my car in it, but i could be some help. i have a friend who might want to put his car in, ill talk to him later tonight about it.

mustangvsix 01-31-2007 05:49 PM

wow, that looks like a sweet event!

Codiddy 02-01-2007 09:35 PM

bump lets get some more people on this

r3dn3ck 02-02-2007 08:54 AM

yeah... cmon guys. for the cost of yes several hundred bucks you get to go out and participate in what I'm sure will become a legendary event. Think of it... a dozen random guys (and ladies probably) who've mostly never met meeting up from all around the country to field a team of cars for a spectacle of high speed and detroit muscle. I may have a local or two convinced to jump in too. That would help a little but we're talking 2-3 dudes.

Codiddy 02-03-2007 11:17 PM

even if nobody else from this site is interested, i will definitely be down r3d.
