Regular Maintence

I just ordered some Royal Purple 5W 20 from american muscle. Also went to Performance Auto today and got myself some techron chevrom fuel system cleaner, K&N oil filter, and an K&N recharge kit for my air flter.

What do you guys use to keep your cars is awesome running condition. Does anyone here bother to use the fuel injector cleaner every 3k miles like they recomend, and is royal purple really the best?

DarkSith 01-17-2007 04:10 PM

Damn, you must be plannin on keeping that car for a long time if you spent that much money on regular maintenance.

GREG@SN95 01-18-2007 09:01 PM

i run fuel cleaner whenever the car runs like shit... so rarely... when ya do that ya might as well change the filter...

I change oil every 3,000 miles... I only use Mobil1 (10w 30 if old car; 5w 30 if newer)..

I will only use purolator oil filters...

as far as royal purple being the best... idk...

I like mobil1... I always have used it... always will... same goes for the purolator oil filter... I know that they're both good quality and I can trust them...

00PerfRedGT 01-18-2007 09:06 PM

greg is right about the puralators...after the class i took on just oil and oilfilters i learned that k&n was definitely the worst and that the napa puralator was the best out of the ones we tested. as for royal purple being the best i run it. and they say you can see HP gains by swtiching all fluids to royal purple. it has me convinced....

WaterDR 01-18-2007 09:22 PM

My cars only see full synthetic. I use Mobil 1 in my Suburban.....90k miles and I change it about every 5 k. I did use Valvoline Synth in it the last time and I will be changing to a high-mileage oil possibly soon. 10W-30 if I recall.

My Stang....Mobile 1 every 3k, cause of the blower. Used to go about 5k. Although, I did use Amsoi the last time because that is what the shop had and ..... I really don't care that much. I use 5W-30.

My Saab gets Mobil 1 0W-50 (I think). I have about 10k on the current oil and I change it at 15k. Why? Because that is what the book says and the car has a 100k factory waranty.

i wouldnt run synthetic oil on a car with a blower because of blow-by... but thats just me. most owners change every 3k anyways...

Ditto also it saves money. Motorcraft 5w-20 does the trick on my motor. Changed every 3k. May have to get a thicker oil the engine is starting to get old.

00PerfRedGT 01-18-2007 10:21 PM

Or just get an oil seperator:breakdancesmilie:

Purolator PureONE is the best filter IMO I think it's the SAE top ranked filter. Cant beat the price either

yeah just look at the box and i think the k&n filters 94% and the puralator is 99%.

Can I ask why some of you use 5w-30 rather than the ford recommended 5w-20? I asked a ford tech about using 5w-30 on my mach and he warned me not to do it because it won't get oil into the cam journal quickly enough because it's thicker than 5w-20. I'm not sure of the DOHC engines have a tighter tolerences, but I'll be sticking to 5w-20.

Also, I wouldn't waste your money on K&N oil filters.....they are expensive and not as good as Purolator or motorcraft.

My car calls for a 5w-30 weight oil, so thats what I use. Certain years went to a 5w-20 for some reason. I use Ford semi-synth oil and a ford filter.

Really thats strange my motor is the exact one your have its the early 01 that doesnt even have the aluminum crossover and the old water pump but yet mine says 5w-20. This is wierd maybe we can get Randy to jump in on this thread and shed some light of why this is?

Fuel economy standards most likely.

I was just going to say that

Heres what a ford dealer said "It is also a fact that ford selected the 5w-20 to get into the incentives the goverment gives for higher mpg cars. Also that when they switched it was hard to find 5w-20 in some areas some most auto owners had to take it to the dealership to just change the oil equalling better profit."
