new keys

i bought my mustang used, so of course, they only gave me one set of keys and one remote. anyone know how much it costs to get a new key/remote done up at a ford dealer?

ya id like to know also, I only recieved 1 key 1 remote also..

Around $80 for a key with remote. reason for that is mustang key's have a chip inside of them which need to be programed.

yikes. i knew my chevy lumina had one of those PASSKEY transmitters in em, but the mustang key just looks like a regular key. oh well, gotta get a 2nd set regardless. i almost locked my keys in the car the other day heh

Not perfectly sure, but i think that the newer tyle keys started in the 98. The 98 also had the newer style interior (cupholders etc).

80 bucks is cheap. if you get a key made you cant use the old one. they reflash your starter module to recognize the new key. i will also add that you just cant have one key made they make you buy too. 3 years ago at a new years eve hotel party someone took my stuff and my only set of keys for the mustang. well a tow truck to the dealership and 180 bucks later im back on the road with new keys that say HURD PATS on them not the usual ford. i was pissed when i seen that. a paddle is dirt cheap on ebay. programming it is simple 7-8 turns of the ignition your doorlocks go crazy and you just push a button on the remote and shazaam your paddle is good.
