Prepping for new wing?

A friend of mine told me that before you take a part(like the wing I'm getting) to a place to get painted, that you have to sand it down with sandpaper or something, to make it smooth or whatever. Is that necessary? And if so, can the place you take it to do that for you bc i'd hate to mess up the awesome wing by doing it wrong. One last question is installation. Is it suggested to have it installed by a place or is it easy enough to do by yourself with a few tools? THANK YOU to anyone who can help me with this.

Depends on the wing. I boughts a Roush Stage 3 wing. There was about 4 hrs of prep work that the wing needed before getting it ready for priming. The wing is molded, so it has mold marks on all the edges that have to be sanded.

Get a sanding block and use 400 grit and then 800 grit. You need lots of elbow grease. I also used a blade to trim some of the larger edges off. You will need to sand the piss out of the entire wing....every bit of it.

Stage 3 Motor Sports sells the Roush wings painted. I think they charge $150 which is a steal if you ask me especially if they do a good job with prep. But I am guessing on the price.
