Boycott autozone

So my car was barely starting a few days ago. i figure its the battery. take my battery in and the guy puts it on the machine and says its good to go. so im like ok its my starter. he agrees. i spend 170 on a starter before the 35 dollar core rebate. go get it put on for 87 bucks cuz i cant get at the top bolt cuz its a bit ch. so then i go pick up my car and the car barely ****n starts. they tell me its the battery. the guy who tested my battery before did it wrong and never put the battery under a load. my battery was runnin at 8 volts under a load. they said it shoudl never run under 9. at first they were gunna screw me over. since im 16 and theyd have their way wiht me so i put my dad on the phone with their manager. after about ten mins of arguing back n forth teh guy decides to give me a free battery. i had to give him my old battery and old perfectly fine starter. pretty much i spent 260 for a new starter plus install and a new battery that woulda costed about 60 bucks. i would b pissed but im just happy my car is startin like a champ. i dont think i will ever shop at that autozone ever again due to teh fact the manager now hates me. lol.

moral of story........... advanced auto parts>autozone

F AUTO ZONE. go there only for ricer tid bits, or in an absolute emergency.
I wouldnt trust any of those flucktards to diagnose my toaster oven...let alone my car.

been to NAPA ever?

The guys that work there are morons for the most part. Those stores are for you to go in, get what YOU KNOW YOU NEED and leave.

I had the same problem...except after they advised me that it was the starter that was jacked..I decided to check it out myself and make sure it was the starter that was fawked! It turned out that my battery was the one that was really messed up.....went out to pepboys and got me a new battery..

i work at oriellys....and i will not shop at autozone....for one im pretty much banned from the local one unless i wake them happy and take a job there...because i screamed at the guy for bitching at me because i was looking my own parts up on the computer and making his job easier...lol....9 bux an hour there to know and do nothing...versus 6.50 at oriellys workin my ass off and diagnosing problems

PureStang 07-31-2006 08:13 PM

i dont go to autozone or advance auto...i hate it there..the only time i go there is to pick up some car wash stuff...

i feel your guys pain. i work at a murrays discount auto and take great pains to make sure i dont give out bad info. and i have to deal with customers who just came from the 'zone all pissed off. not all parts guy are bad, and some, like myself to try very hard to make sure you leave with the right part the first time. but like i always say at work, i am only as good as the information you give me. dont ask me for the thing on the part by the top of engine...wtf is that..people say that kind of **** every day and expect us to know exaclty what they mean, and get pissed when i ask to be more specific.

smg32208 07-31-2006 09:28 PM

yea i deff thought i knew the starter was bad. cuz they tested the batteyr and said it was good the first time. so im like ok its battery. gotta b. its not like they told me it was the starter first time. but yea i wasnt even seeking advice cuz i kno more then them. i just wanted my batt tested and they cant even do that ****. thats pathetic. it was a very old guy who was just hired so its not his fault htey cant train him good. but still. what the ****. i worked my ass off landscaping for that money

Most auto parts stores should be avoided unless you know exactly what you want from the parts aisle. I myself will never ever get another aftermarket anything. Because anything that is mass produced for aftermarket will only be stuff that didn't make the quality cut for OEM stuff. Auto parts stores are usually AM sales oriented. (They will try to sell you a rebuilt starter, alternator, etc. Thats where they make their money. Always ask for and pay more for the OE part that you want. My company makes filters for most auto parts stores and most of the factories, ie. Ford, Chrysler, GM, Toyota= (turdtoter) as I call emm LOL. And believe me I wouldn't even steal an AM filter from the plant.
Always use OEM parts, and know what you need before you go there, OR get an auto mechanic friend.

You could of just asked us for help as a battery is easy to replace and starter just a tad more. With all that money you could of bought an Optima battery plus a tool set from sears plus a mutimeter and you would of had enough for a few beers and an air freshner. BTW I had to replace my batt after on my truck after only 30k miles. Heres what I got, I have yet to replace any I have oldest one is 7 years already.

I may look into an optima next go round.

Maybe in your factory that is true, but most aftermarket parts must meet OEM specifications. In alot of instances they are made exactly the same and on the same equipment as the OEM parts.
