Thumbs down Car & Driver Shelby GT500 vs c6 review!!

Overall the vette owned the Shelby as far as 0-60, braking, handling, 1/4 mile, etc.etc...I think it might have something to do with the fact that the vette weighs in @ 3280 and the shelby is a heavy porker @ 3896 lbs!! ...the shelby won't be anywhere near close to the zo6 seeing as it is lighter than the base c6!

I love the shelby, but I'd take the Z06. Is curb weight caculated with a full tank of gas? That also isn't including the driver so we are looking at a 4,100-4,200lb mustang?? Good god that's heavy.....Good thing it has lots of power!

Yeah I would still take the shelby, but the z06 is definately a beaut, but if those shelbys are as easy to mod as the 03-04 cobras then it will be a different story

Yeah, but it's not like you can't mod a vette! Hell, that Z06 with a CAI, mid-pipe, cat back and tune will be SUPER BAD...start adding headers and cams....ha ha ha....forget about it! You still have a huge weight difference also

I would think the GT500 would at least beat the base C6 in the 1/4 considering the C6 is a tick slower than the C5 z06. Hell, I've seen sub-400hp supercharged GT beat a stock C6 before. Then again, the GT500 is actually heavier than the 03/04 Cobras, so it might not be much, if any faster than the terminators.

With me in my 03 cobra and about 1/4 tank of gas my car weigh about 4040lbs (I was 250lbs then) so this new GT500 is about 200lbs heavier than the 03-04 cobras. And for another comparison my 01 cobra vert weighed less than my 03 cobra hardtop. So each new mustang that has come out in the last 5yrs has gotten heavier with more power.....

Daang, your Cobra is fat lol! We should race, just to see how I'd do. My GT isn't exactly the thinnest 2V on the block though. :shifty:

My best with the auto & 4.10s (381hp/400tq) was 12.61@110. I shouldn't hit the rev limiter now so I should trap higher. I just need to drive well and maybe I'll see low 12s.

Hahahaha. My next sports car wont be a Shelby, and probably not an 03 anymore. Lets just say I had the pleasure of driving a vette this weekend. Order my prescription of Viagra and Cialis.

Wow, that's heavy man....Damn that IRS. Ford needs to start figuring out a way to trim some fat off the pony cause it's getting a bit out of hand.

I'd take the Corvette hands down. Why?Well my friend works with someone whose son put a deposit on the GT500 and was given a number. He recieved a letter saying his number was drawn and he can have his own GT500 for a paltry MSRP PLUS $20,000.I like the GT500 but IMO it's not worth a 20k markup.

$20k over MSRP! Yeah no thanks....What is the MSRP going to be on the
GT500's? I think it's great that Ford is doing so well they can markup a car so high, but holly hell that's crazy. I wonder if the other "special edition" stangs are going to be crazy like that.

Annouced today to be a smidge over 40k for the coupe, and I think 43-44 for the conv. Also, for those of you in states that require a front plate...a mere 295 DOLLARS! for the bracket, something that comes free on the Z06.

You guys are missing one big point.....you can put 4 people in a Mustang. That might not sound like much to you single guys, but for that reason alone, no Vette for me.

Personally, I would take a Shelby and a Harley over a Vette. You can get both for the same price.

That's great if you guys can afford to go out and buy the new corvette but i much rather get the shelby if i had that kind of money and spend the extra cash on the stang and be right there with the vette. I think Vette's are for old farts who are a bunch of snobby punks. But that's my opnion and you guys have yours. I agree with the fact that Ford needs to put these cars on diets. Chevy has always used bigger motors but obviously they can't be that great if they had to stop selling camaros and firebirds (pontiac), But ford has always held there own with the small motors even if it did take a few mods. Ford has always been cheaper allowing us to add our power adders and other bolt ons. Sorry if i'm rambling but this kind of gets me angry to see mustang owners going to the dark side.

Now, be honest and ask yourself this question:

What percentage of the people that you know who own Vettes are a-holes vs. Mustangs?

My experience, Vette owners own that statistic.

They also have the highest statistic for ED JK. Im not really concerned with the stereotype, and I understand the 4 seater thing, but I guess that gives me a reason to buy that M3... Id prolly buy it after I graduate (hmm, yeah right mr. expectation) and keep it until after I was married for a few years/ready for kids. Then bring on my minivan...
