So basically I've hated my job for a very long time, and it's finally got to the point where I'm looking for a new job. In fact I have an interview/meeting type tomorrow morning. A guy I work with is also going to an interview (they have 2 of the same positions open, we're each trying for one). As far as I can understand this job has been open for awhile.. at least 3 weeks, and he told my friend on the phone they are desperate to hire someone. I saw this job on monster.com and one of my teachers actually told me about it. On monster.com it's listed by a hiring company, but its the same job anyways. They listed 45-55k salary and at the bottom of the description they said "salary is dependent on experience." Anyways.. what I'm trying to get at is, I'm mostly concerned about the pay. I'm worried when I get there its not gonna be that much.. this every happen to anyone out there???

i have always had good luck with monster, however, you never know.

First off, what is the job? what would you be doing?

If they advertize 45-55k then chances are the starting is around 45 and you can top off around 55k.

remember, you are interviewing them every bit as much as as they are interviewing you.

good advice!! i do feel kinda like i have an slight advantage over them.. since they've already stated they're really really needing someone for this position.

it's a job that will require some travel.. which im actually lookin forward to. i'm not 100% on all the details yet, i'll know tomorrow.. but from what i do understand it's pretty much driving to where ever the barge is docked at.. getting on and solving computer/networking/electronic issues. there's a lot of various things that its gonna involve im sure. it's very funny because i currently work in the geek squad at best buy (thats the job i hate). ive worked there almost two years. in the job description they said "need a geek squad type person" lol..

yeah just play it aloof. You already have a job, they DONT have anyone doing this job. make sure they got good bennies too. Dont wanna shortchange yerself anywhere. Since it is salary, i would be sure to find out what the on-call sched is like, garauntee yer gonna have to carry a pager from time to time. Dont wanna quit the other job only to find out yer on call 24/7

to be honest i wouldn't even mind being on call 24/7.. this job pays twice as much as my current job and in my opinion is worth it. but i really would like to not get stuck working all the time lol. my uncle has worked for the company for longer than ive been alive and i just talked to him on the phone and asked him about the position.. he named the two guys he knows that does it.. said they get on the boat for a few hours and troubleshoots ome problems in windows, install some programs, and then they're done lol. sounds pretty nice, and he said it paid good from what he knew. so i hope all goes well tomorrow :) i'd really like to get out of my current job, it gets worse everyday.

but yeah.. im definately gonna play it how you said, i dont have a degree but i have enough work experience as is to make up for it, so those bastiges better not shortchange me. im looking for 45k minimum lol

Go for it. LOL its not very similar, but when I worked at Cold Stone, I applied online. Good luck, 45-55k is good change. :)

45k aint bad. Its definatly enough earning power to really be able to get out on your own and have some fun while yer at it.

Do yourself a favor though, if you get that job then start taking classes, clep whatever you can and start going for your with juniper or cisco certs, within a year or two you could jump up into the 60's if you play yer cards right.

the thing yer gonna notice though, is no matter how much you make, you never seem to have any damn money.

as your earning power goes up, so do your monthly expences and the price of your toys.

im hammering out 2k a month in bills, and that is just car and house. doesent include revolving credit, insurance, electric, phone, cable tv, etc etc. But i still find time to buy toys and have a great time.

you can certainly get locked into a paycheck. LOL

oh yeah.. ive been in school for the past 3 years lol.. right now im ready to take my ccna, net+, security+, microsoft server 2003 and xp tests, ccnp 2 + 3 exams lol.. i just dont have the time/money to do all of them right now.

but yeah.. the main reason i want this job is so i can get out on my own, thats my main goal. the area that i live in its very affordable too :) 300-450 for rent with some utilities aint bad

well just an update.. the job is cool, everything is cool.. but they just want me to temp first.. which sucks ass. so i dunno now. they said they havent been able to find someone qualified enough to fill the position so they're hiring through a temp agency to see if they can find one to fit their needs. he said he'd show my resume and application to the superviser i'd be under so who knows. i pretty much meet all the job requirements. he told me they have 1 temping right now but with very very basic computer skills, im hoping they just decide to hire me and my friend on lol

My monster online experience.

Right after college, I was desperate for a good job and tried monster. I got a reply from an company called "American Income" with a position open as a sales rep. 45-50k starting and on up were offered so I figured what the hell. I talked to the guy on the phone and he told me how great the job was and blah.... I drive 2 hrs to the city for my interview at 8 am. Get to the office and dissappointment sets in. This "huge" company has a single room office with 1 guy, the boss, sitting at a desk with 1 computer, nothing on the walls, folding chairs, nothing you'd expect of a viable company.

Basically I would be given leads to go to companies and persuede them to switch to their health insurance plans to AI plans. I asked what made AI insurance so good, you know, the selling point, and he sidestepped me every time and jsut told be about how great the money would be. Other great points included: working on only commission, 100/week only for the 6 week training period, no company car, no expense account. He then tells me that he is making around 200k a yr doing this. B.S. meter went off the chart there. I told him thanks, and took my new shirt and tie and left. He asked when I would like to schedule a follow up interview and I said don't bother.


I'm sure there are great jobs on monster, this was just my experience. After I was just glad I didn't show up and get butt raped by some guy in a van pretending he owned a company. Watch your cornhole and goodluck.

I had a buddy with an extremly similar experience. Cant blame monster for it though, i got my job through monster and its been good steady income for over 5 years now.

lots of reputable companys are on there.

just gotta be able to recognize the guys selling you speakers out of thier white van.

Van Guys = no specifics on job and claim of riches and wealth.
Legitimate guys = specifics on job, and normally spend little time talking of pay.

i filled out applications online... but they were online for crap jobs... lol... All the good jobs I ever had I went and talked personally to the manager... lol...
