Whats the best engine cleaner/degreaser i can buy? I'm giving my car a good engine clean 2day and wanted to see what are my options! I'm not looking for stuff i have to order online, just something i can pick up at autozone or pep boys! Thanks for any help...

dont use simple green it eats hoses. Use some degeaser watered down. Then spray it all off and use a prtective coating like aerospace 303 or something like that.

stang00 05-15-2006 04:15 PM

Same here! Can't find anywhere. I use Gunk (citrus) and silicone.

Lances03SVT 05-15-2006 04:31 PM

I'm going to try the Gunk citrus soon!!

i use a citrus degreaser watered down it works great. I only have to actuly wash the motor maybe once every other month or so. If you just pop the hood and wipe everything down after every wash it wont get very dirty under there.

i used gunk...it sucks

3V2000GT 05-15-2006 06:32 PM

I first applied the gunk citrus to my extremely dirty engine bay (i had a few dried up tree leaves in there) Let it sit for about 10 mins. The only thing you don't wanna spray is the alternator. Then hose it down. I turn on my car when i hosed it down though...let it idle for 10 minutes so it will dry. Turn it off, let it cool down for a good 20-30 mins. Spray gunk citrus again(light spray) on the places that you want to detail. Let it sit 5 mins. Then turn the car on and let idle for 15 mins until any excess gunk dries off....and you're done!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I went and got some Citrus Gunk today. Did you guys cover anything up besides the alternator like wireing and such, the directions on the back have me kinda wary about this stuff.
