Hmm...I wasn't going to get a mustang cause heard insurance would be so high, well found out a mustang is like only 4 more a month than the truck i wanted...sooooo...back to getting a stang :evil6:

I was wondering if this stang is worth it? I think it is, i need some opinion cause I'm prolly going in 2morrow to check for scratches/dints/interior stuff

I kno it's not a GT, but its nice I think...and if I get it, worth buying extras? (rims/wheels/lower an inch, etc, etc.)

Get if it is what you want, but youll always wonder about a GT. Just advice, suck it up, pay the insurance and get the GT. Especially since thats an automatic one too. And about the upgrades, dont expect huge gains without huge dollars. There is a guy on here with a supercharged v6 and its nice as crap, so its possible to do. Just money.

GT's in that year can now be found for $8k with same mileage. I don't know your situation, but we all have to draw the financial line somewhere. We can always spend more. Matt is kinnda right about the GT, but there will always be someone saying "why don't you get a cobra" if you were looking at a GT.

If you could get that car for $5500 or anything under $6, that would probably ge good if the car is clean. Never be afraid to walk away and remember cash talks.

I always use Kelley Blue Book Private Party numbers as a guide. Go to kbb.com and put the numbers in. If the car is only worth $4500, then thats what you offer. If it's worth $7k, then offer $5k anyway and go from there.

If you were my son and wanted a Mustang but was on a strict budget, I think a 1999 auto V-6 would be a great place to start. Buying a car like this, keeping it up and selling it in a few years when you can get something else, won't kill you too bad. Imagine paying $6,000 for it and then selling it for $4k a few years later..not bad, eh.

One other thing, if this car is appealing to you and the price meets your budget, I would also try to find a 97 - 98 GT. Body style is a bit different, but these GT's can be had for cheap. And, it's a good platform to modify. A 98 GT is about midway in power between a 99 V6 and a 99 GT, but can easily be converted into a screamer. If possibly, you might even find a '97 with the PI Head Swap done and then you are good to go.

Well, yes I am on a budget, with my sucky job I can barley afford this stang + insurance, because at the moment my insurance company is being gay and is charging 200 for any car i get anyways, we have to change companies soon. I was thinking get this car and have it for 2 years, I don't plan on racing with it, just for looks/sound(music + exhaust) for now. Next stang I want would be like a 00-03 GT down the road...

You're 16... rates will suck regardless of the company.

I say get the 6'er... you'll be wondering "what if" about the GT but you'll be less likely to wrap yourself around a telephone pole.

Take your time searching and get what you want. Id get a GT over a V6, you'll pay more for insurance, but you know youll be a lot happier with the better performance and heavier duty parts of the GT. Youll end up spending a lot of cash just to get it up to stock gt speeds

I havnt had a mustang in 10 years, then the bug bit me. I got rid of my mustang long ago due to high insurance, and the 35 points on my licence!!!

I have no points now or Yet. Im 37 and my insurance is cheaper than my truck. $720 per year for my mustang GT.

I took my time and searched for 2 months, Ebay, traders, cars.com. I got a good deal on a 1997 GT, garage kept, 51k miles, for $5500, It had a Steeda shifter already, Magnaflow Catbacks, And upon more unknown inspection i found it already had a PI head and intake swap, and a Superchip.

Dont rush on buying, get what you want but dont overpay, Theres so many people selling mustangs and needing the cash that killer deals can be found. I probably bid on at least 10 Mustangs on ebay that i wanted, but i Kept bidding low and keeping self control till it paid off.

You will end up being more happy getting a GT. There are many out there for the price you are looking for.

Also 1998 is not the best year to buy. Some will say that it is a good year mustang but there have been more problems with 98. You can go with a 97 and your insurance would be much cheaper.

Well with my junky job, I can't afford a GT + 200insurance + 2dollars a gallon for gas, i wont have any money to do anything anyways.

I test drove the v6 2day, very nice. Pluse the interior was almost perfect and only a few lil scratches on the exterior that can be buffered out. I was planning on getting the v6 as my first car, and in 1-2 yrs, get a GT when I'm more experienced...might sound dumb but I think it's smart...

EDIT :: And since it's a V6, i don't plan on using the cash to make it into a GT, I just want my first stang to be decently fast and look very nice, I know Mustangs are speed and looks, but just looks is good for now...until 2 years when I get a GT and have the cash to fix it up

yeah man a 99 or 97 v6 manual would be a great car to begin wit theres so many things u can do to them same wit gt's if u want to keep insurance down though a v6 is a right way its not like there real slow like a pos civic

Just another thought, if you like the 97-98 body style, look for a 94 or 95 GT... these car be found for the same $5995 that v-6 was and it will be much cheaper to mod since its got a 5.0.

Hey man i'm 18 now and i started out with a 5spd 96 V6 when i was 16. It was a great car to start with. I got it for about 6 grand at the time and it had really low miles. I drove it for about a year and a half and put a nice system in it, and really just kept it stock. When i turned 18 i went and bought a 03 GT. I have to say...i really don't regret getting the V6 to start with. The reason being...it let's you know if you REALLY want a mustang. If you've never had one i think a v6 is a great place to start. Then once you save some cash, if you like driving the car...then you know you'll love driving the GT. I'm glad i drove around in the 6 for a while. I'd rather do that then pay all the money for the GT and then end up not liking it. I say go for the 6!!!

you can make them fast for a littel bit of money. My freinds 94 v6 we just put on a used $1500 ati procharger & that things kinda fast. its almost as fast as my gt now, well minus spray.

around my way 94 or 95s are 3500 to 4500, 96 to 98 4500-7000. $200 more for Insurance isnt much and well worth getting the gt, plus if you ever sell it, it will be worth more.
