so wtf?? is MT gonna have to change it's name too?? Theres no way ford can change the name of all companies with "mustang" in the name. They're idiots.

Rabbit 05-11-2006 10:52 AM

Yeah, when I went to MPS a guy was telling me about that, the "M" use to stand for Mustang so they had to just change their name to MPS. He said ford wanted a whole lotta money for them to keep the name!

Shambles 05-11-2006 11:37 AM

Also its pretty crazy, I think things like this are starting to make Ford look bad, looking for money from small companys like this.

madmatt 05-11-2006 12:03 PM

Welcome to todays society where noone gives two sh*ts about anyone else, just the almighty dollar. Shame on Ford. Without these companies, where the hell would the mustang be...

Not at liberty to comment until I get the OK from the higher ups.

IMO, Ford should be the one paying for damages, not the other way around. Their thing was ridiculous, calling for the COMPANIES to pay 10k in damages...thats stupid.

Fawk Ford!

ridiculous, its because of companies like these that mustangs are as popular as they are.. it's free promotion for them and they're mad about it... they are only going to hurt themselves... stupidity

NoKturnaL 05-11-2006 04:11 PM

Um..last time I checked...MUSTANG was a horse.... FORD cannot take the Name away.. Ford is not the creator of the word mustang.....

PonyTuning.com

jlt2006 05-11-2006 04:24 PM

GM is doing the same thing.

My other toy is 51 Chevy Pick Up

http://home.cinci.rr.com/jeffreytom/

The made a company that use to be called Chevy Duty, obviously sold parts for Chevy's, they changed there name Classic Parts.

You would think if a company sold only there parts for a specific car, they would not mind.

MustangTuning.com will now be known as:

ThatReallyPopularCarThatFordMakesButNoOneIsAllowed ToSayItsNameTuning.com

RedFirevert04GT 05-11-2006 08:40 PM

This is almost enough to make a life long Mustang guy sell them both and go buy an F-body.

madmatt 05-11-2006 08:48 PM

No kidding. Ford is being absolutely gay right now. Wont be long til they fold...such a shame

Actually it's because it's a copyright. Any business that has a copyright will not let you use their logo or name unless you have their permission. It's in the "Terms and agreements" we all say yes to or "I accept" this agreement when you sign things. Escpecially software, and online stuff.

I was in an online drag racing club a few years ago and the website we had used an official NHRA logo. Guess what. The webmaster had to take it off the website. LOL. **** you NHRA. They were adament about not using the official NHRA logo. Go figure.. :foot:

madmatt 05-12-2006 04:02 AM

I understand Copywrites, but come on, after almost 50 freakin years? Gimme a break, this isnt about copywrites, its about money.

Reminds me of a funny little story......

I was selling laser pointers on eBay and listing them as "Worlds Greatest Cat Toy" Well, I got an email from another eBay member asking me to remove my listing since it violates his patented idea. I was like "WTF" told him off and continued to sell them. A week later, get the same email with him asking me politely AGAIN to remove my listing. I ignore this one. A few more days go buy and he sends me one last email telling me if I don't remove it he will have no choice but to begin legal action. I started laughing hysterically until I clicked the link in his email to the US Patent office.
HE HAD PATENTED THE IDEA TO USE A LASER POINTER OR ANY LASER BEAM EMMITING DEVICE USED AS A CAT TOY.http://www.mcmmotorsports.com/smilies/jawdrop.gif
It was legit. I ended my auctions immediately and emailed my opologies.

Just goes to show you people aint f'n around anymore.
However, Mustang is a horse AND a car. I would like to see Ford try and sue the family that named the Mustang horse hundreds of years ago.

RedFirevert04GT 05-13-2006 05:37 PM

It's one thing for copyright infringement. I think Ford is being over the top with this one. Asking a small time (in comparison) company to pay them 10 grand for 'damages' is nothing short of absolute crap. If anything, Ford should be paying these companies. If it wasn't for companies like Mustang Tuning, MPH, MD and countless others, Mustang sales would drop like a rock. The availability of aftermarket parts is one part of what keeps the Mustang such a hit on the streets. Even gramma with her mid 90's V6 Mustang has at least one aftermarket part or another on her car. Granted, she wasn't thinking of that when she bought it. But how many of us considered the aftermarket when making a car choice? How many of us would have bought our 'Stangs if we knew we would have to work and fabricate and completely build from scratch every mod we had. I know I don't have that kind of time.

EXACTLY. Another thing is they are doing to this so that people HAVE to buy from their parts departments, which, if that becomes the case, I WILL be driving a camaro. Thats gay.
