Lugnut key problem...help!

Ok so I took my car in the shop to get worked on(performance parts) and when I came back to pick it up, they said that I was missing the key-lock for my lugnuts(to prevent theft). Luckily, he had a special key that could unscrew the special lugs, so now I need to get a lug key. So I got to thinkin...

should I send in for another key bc I have the code from the company to get a backup key?

or should I buy a new set of lugnuts, knowing that somewhere, someone has the key to my lugs, and could steal the rims if they knew where I was parked. Nobody has broken into my car(that I know of) so it's likely either the ford dealership or the auto repair place I went to a few weeks ago that have the key. Only thing is, neither of those jobs at either place required the wheels to come off..

should I get a new key? or a complete new set of lugs?

I'd get a new set. You never know if you just lost it or some punk kid working at the dealership is gonna go back late at night and jack your wheels. JMO. It would be worth the piece of mind and you could just go to autozone and pick them up instead of ordering.

BTW: If someone really wants your wheels, the locks won't help. You can hammer a 12 point socket on the the keyed lug and they will spin right off with a 1/4 drive.

I've heard this before. Can anybody recommend a good set of locking lugs?

but a new set. if they want your wheels bad enough, you will no longer be an owner to them.

i ended up breaking mine so I had to order new ones. they are cheap so buy something different.

Get a new set, And I recommend a little extra torgue on the keyed lug. Just be careful and smooth, you can lock it down pretty tight. Aint no oversized socket gonna brake it loose. But if someone wants your wheels bad enough, Vise grips will probably get it off. or hammer and chisel. Dam that sounds nasty.. :bash:

I would just order another key. Hell even if you get a new set and someone wants your wheels they will get them. My wife lost her key and I used a 3/4 inch socket, hammered it on the lug nut and it came off. Locking keys really don't stop someone if they want the wheels. Just causes them to take an extra 5 minutes to get them.

I'm guessing from the sig pic, the rims that you're missing the key to are not stock, but here's what I think:

Stock Rims = New key. Who cares if your stocks get stolen?

After Market Rims = New set of lugs. Definitely. Protect your "investment" by erring on the side of caution.

Are you meaning an entire new set of lugs(16 of them plus 4 locks)? or are you saying just buy 4 new keys?

if these locs (& key) came wth your car from Ford there will be an ID card in wth your owners manual wth a serial # and a 1-800 # for the McGard Loc co, call (or contact them) for a re-placement key or loc, price is @$10.00 + shipping. also if you goto a Ford dealer they'll have a master set that they can use to remove your locks.
