Which carpet.

Well I am at the point of deciding what color carpet to do on my changover in my car. I was originally thinking of doing the Royal blue carpet to go with my Black-n-Blue theme, but I don't want to overdo the blue. Should I go with blue or black carpet?

How my interior looks now:

Would the blue carpet be overkill? Here are the carpet color choices:

Blue would be very overboard

hey rabbit, was your interior always black with tan carpet and seats? or did you dye some of it? i have pics on the site somewhere with my interior, i put red carpet in with black floor mats and everything else is black but i think the blue painted pieces will be overdoing it. i say get black carpet.

no, it was all parchment (2 tone... :puke: ) I hated it. I didn't dye any of it. I used Dupli-color vinyl and carpet paint. I saw them using it on Unique Whips and figured I would try it out. Stuff works great! I've only got $31 in paint at this point (still have a few small places to touch up but am very impressed with it, no scratching peeling or anything!

You painted your boot too? How is that holding up?

It was holding up good, until a couple of days ago. I got some overspray on it and decided to go ahead and paint the rest of it. Looked nice but now it is starting to peel in a few places. So, I am going to go with one of these instead:

10th Anniversary Cobra Carbon fiber simualted boot: (only $49.99)

Yeah I saw the pics a while ago, you're thread was pretty much what gave me the idea. I wanted the same but different (not copy the exact red and black, allthough I am a big UGA fan! lol)..

BTW: Nice fixture!

I wish I had the time to be a permanent fixture in someone else's car......

xpaeanx 03-13-2006 06:42 PM

anyway, go with black carpets... just as everyone else seems to think.... blue would just be... well... no.

Jack The Ripper 03-13-2006 06:50 PM

Ok, i say Blue. Just cause everyone else disagrees.

Honesty though, i think the blue would look good, it is a pretty dark blue. Electric blue would be a bit much. Maybe black floormats on the blue.

Anyways......

yeah i think it could look good but not with the interior pieces painted blue also. i just think thats a little too much. btw, slappy when are you going to finish your interior? it's been a while and i havent seen any news on it (not trying to hijack the thread, just curious).

Oh yah, that IS a nice fixture. I usually keep mine in my trunk.

im still waiting for the weather to turn before i do the work. I plan to pick up a truck sometime in the next week or two, that way i can have the stang completly gutted and take my time with it and not worry about my commuting abilitys. Plus i can drive the truck to the ground and not worry about loading so many miles on the mustang.'

Hope to buy the carpet in the next week or so....
I need the weather to settle down though, its been way too cold to do it lately.

Where are you getting your carpet from? I thought about going here: Interior Carpet it don't sound like a bad price for $129 but I don't know the quality or anything.....

Oh and if I did go with the dark blue carpet I would get some black (35th Aniv) floor mats from the same place.

this is where i got mine from, good prices and selection of colors. you just have to trim them to fit, they are custom molded carpets, you just trim the edges and cut the holes for the shifter and e brake etc... you can also order custom fit floor mats and other stuff.

edit: oh yeah the best part about that website is they send you free samples of their carpet in the mail so you can see if you like the color or not. i went through about 6 colors of red before i found the one i liked. and it only took about 3 days to get here in south florida.

and MahnotinkneeGT, ya got that right...

I would go with the blue just to be different. I don't think it would be too much overkill.

So out of all you guys who painted your interior plastic:
1. Did you use the duplicolor dye?
2. Have you had any problems with it chipping....even with handling it after painting?

I want to paint my plastic trim pieces red soo bad, but I just cannot get myself to believe that it won't chip...I don't want it to chip and look crappy and then have to order new pieces. Back me up here.

as long as you prep it right you will have no problem with it chipping. for the hard plastic pieces (ie - radio bezel, door inserts, etc...) use regular spray paint. for the softer vinyl (such as dash, door panels, console, etc...) use the duplicolor interior and carpet dye/paint. the key is in the prep work. and even if you mess it up you dont have to buy new pieces, just sand it down and paint it again. good luck.

+1, like he said, just MAKE SURE you clean the **** out of it before you paint it. I used rubbing alcohol (cleans deep and dries quick). You have to get every bit of the grease/armorall/protectant off or the paint will not stick at all!
