After work, im running by radio shack and buying a DBL meter. Im going to establish a norm of testing for mustang volume. Once i get my results, i will mail it to somone else, they can repeat the process and post thier results and mail it to somone else.
Will test 1 meter from exhaust, at idle, 1k 2k 3k 4k 5k and 6k RPM ranges. Will list all the DBL levels, and will post a sound clip of idle up to redline. I want people who WILL mail the meter out of thier own pocket. Go ahead and volunteer. Need all exhaust types, V6 and V8, and we need to get some sound clips as well. Once i get all the info i will compile it, we can post it here as a sticky, and you can check out each type of exhaust. also need people with different cam stages to volunteer. Ill be back on monday, will have my results, and will determine an order of who this will ship to. Like i said, i will ship it to the next person, they BETTER ship it to the next. Lets keep this going huh? Ill be back monday. VOLUNTEERS SIGN IN NOW! State the type of exhaust or cams. |

Allright. I diddnt get a chance to get the DBL meter this weekend, will see about getting it tomorrow. Will try to get some sound clips and get my results in, then i will check and see who has what, and thier location, and i'll mail it to the closest person, once they get thier results they will mail it to the next closest person, kinda hop it across the US untill it gets around to where everyone gets to try it.
But be DAMN SURE you are willing to mail it off to the next guy on yer OWN BILL. Or else we will get 2-3 people and it will end and then it will suck and a lot of time will be wasted. Ill see about getting everything organized tomorrow or the next day, will hopefully gte the DBL sent to the first person on the list by the weekend. |

you should probably make a list and that way once a person has done it and posted the results, they know exactly who to mail it too...
Also how big is this thing, and how are sound recordings guna be recorded... Also i'm sure you've thought of this, but what about distances from cars, u guna have a set way of testing the exhaust... I think this would be very helpful, especially for the V6 guyz, there aren't a whole lot of good sound clips out there for us Lil guyz...

This thing will not record, so audio of the setup is not gonna really be mandatory, but if you have the capability then do it. As far as testing standards, i would assume to do it the same way they test loudspeaker systems. Place the mic 1 meter behind the vehical, centered, and the same height as the exhaust tip. Record the decible level at 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k, 5k, and redline. Then try to go for a peak volume. Since nobody sits right there, it would probably also bre a good idea to have it 10feet to one side of the vehical and make the same measurements at the same rpm ranges, and also go for a max DBL level. Once i pick it up ill toy around with it and see what would be the best way, ill be sure to put great detail into the testing. Must be in open space, not near walls, height of meter, distance, etc, etc. This think looks like it is gonna set me back about 60 bucks for a cheap digital SPL meter, so we need to make sure we keep it passing. The idea of having a list of who has it, and when it was shipped with tracking information would definatly help motivate people keep it moving. |

Sounds good to me, Im in. It would probably be good to have a list of all the people who are gonna do this and where they live....have it set up so that each person sends it to someone close to them, that way nobody really has to send it all the way across the country and it will make it easy to keep track of.
