So my HD crashed and then scrashed again. I just replaced it with a new one and now trying to restore everything.

I can not figure out why when I scroll using the mouse why it is jumpy and not smooth. Like there is a delay.

Anyone?

 

I need to download all the windows updates, so perhaps that is the problem.

 

You need to go into your mouse setup and check the settings.

 

you need to install the driver for your video card and not use the windows driver for it.. go to the manufacturer's website.. should be either nvidia, ati, or intel (unless you have an oooold computer lol)

 

Check and see how many lines you are scrolling at once. You could be scrolling a TON of lines at once.

 

I have tried that....no avail.

 

I don't that that is the problem, because all video is good. Just a problem scrolling.

 

you sure you have the video driver though? cuz it'll sometimes give the appearence it's scrolling all messed up

Is it optical or does it have the ball in it? I think I know what the problem is

 

Is it wireless? I have an optical wireless and when the battery was getting low in it, it would skip like that.

 

It is a newer Dell. But, a ball style mouse. It is NOT wireless. The ball seems fine. The problem is only when scrolling.

 

Check inside the mouse not the ball but the 2 wheels that the ball turns make sure there isnt a kinda dusty/dirt film over the top of it if there is you can scratch and clean that crap off.

Option 2 go to the control panal and click on the mouse properties and you can accelerate the movement of the mouse so its not choppy.

 

Nope...the ball is fine. In fact, I think the mouse is fine. I can move the curser around as smooth as can be, but when the screen scrolls it is all choppy.

 

You need to go to the mouse properties and try a few things reinstall the driver that controls it may be an old version or possibly corrupt. One way another your solution will be in that control panal.

 

I also have no sound! I am beginning to suspect a driver problem. BUT, I have no clue from here. How the hell do I know what audio driver or video driver I need?

 

Ouch I hate hardware issues. I usually call my companies IT guy. He makes house calls. . Might be a good time to upgrade your video and sound cards. But I'm probably not helping you any though, Sorry..

 

Check out the hardware profile.....by going to the system tools folder if i'm correct and you can see everything and what is in your computer and what you need....or you can take the damn thing to a circuit city and they will fix the freaking thing...lol

no but really.. right click on my computer and go to properties, click on the hardware tab, and then click device manager. anything with a yellow question mark you need the driver for. either use the driver disk that came with the computer or I would recommend going to the manufactuer's (of the computer) website and download the drivers from there by typing in your model number.

 

Did you spray water in the mouse LOL.

Turned out to be a video driver problem. ccsledd got it right. I still do not have sound though. The computer seems to think that there is no sound card installed. Any help on this one?

sound or soundcard is probably disabled. check the control panel.

Well, there you go. Enable it, or get some drivers for it.

 

How do I know what kind of sound card I have?

 

Shambles, check the disks that originally came with your comp, one of them should be the software and drivers for your soundcard (most likely Soundblaster made by Creative Labs)... also, if you have a Dell then your soundcard is a Soundblaster. If you don't have the disk then go to this webpage to download the current driver http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/

 

also, check the documentation that came with the desktop. unless some bum off the streets, like mr. miagii in the above pic, threw together your pc which you picked up at a swap meet, then there should be install disks and docs for all hardware in your computer

 

or just go to the manufacturers website, punch in your model number, download the audio driver listed
