What Shift Kit Should I Get?

I want to get a shift kit for my Auto, not so I can manushift but just to really firm up the shifts. I was thinking either a Trans-Go or Baumann Engineering. I know one of you mentioned J-Mod, but I can't find any info on these anywhere. Can someone let me know about them or give a link to some info? Also, of those 3, which would you recommend? I plan on getting a tranny cooler at the same time.

I'd recommend getting a Tuner to firm up your shifts.

Don't cheap out on the tranny cooler. Hayden are ok for oil and diffs but for auto trannies if you can afford it get a real cooler from fluidyne.

I'll leave the shift kit to someone who might have the slightest clue.

Bump

Anyone else think a tuner would be better than a real shift kit?

If you do a tune then your going to need a tranny cooler because now your tranny is going to be working a lil more and heating up a tad. J mod is something that takes the place of a shift kit and in my opinion the best way to go...I cant remember the website it will show you how to do it...but i'm sure if you give the instructions to a tranny specialist they can do it for you

using a tuner to make your car shift harder is bad. it makes the pump work harder and makes it get hotter it will shorten the life of your pump and isnt needed to get good shifts.

Ok I was wrong then.Damn that don't happen often :)

whats a shift kit and why should i get one!

i was just planing on getting a tuner to get better shifts

spike_africa 01-10-2006 09:23 PM

you should use it to adjust shift points not the transmission line pressure which will make it shift a bit harder. And to be honest a chip even with the **** firmness turned all the way up doesnt shift very hard at all. get a shift kit or valve body or do the jerry mod, just please dont raise your trannys line pressure i cant stress this enough. I killed the 2nd tranny on my F150 ( a $2k built one) because my tuner thought it would be cool to raise the pressure all the way up i had no idea as i got a new tune when i got a new tranny to go with some new mods i had done, i assumed it was my new valve body shifting so firm, nope.

TEXASPAUL 01-11-2006 02:20 PM

what is a shift kit?????

where can i get one?????

spike_africa 01-11-2006 03:35 PM

its when you mod the valve body in the tranny to make it shift faster and firmer it makes it run cooler shift faster and shift hard read bark tires in 3rd with an auto f150 with 275 dr's out back (my truck).

a tranny shop or if you want to you can do it also there have been many write ups.

stanger00 01-11-2006 03:46 PM

i found the link for the j-mod. www.tccoa.com. good luck with that. if i were you i would just buy a new valve body thats already been worked on. lentech is good one to go with. this is what everyone told me to go with.

TEXASPAUL 01-11-2006 09:47 PM

have have noooo idea what the last two post said
show me what the pptions
show me the price
give what u would reccomned
and show a link to an actuall kit pleze

i have a vague idea how a manual works but noo clue how an auto works sooo....

foncarelli 01-11-2006 11:07 PM

Get a TransGo shift kit and do the Jerry Mod. Pick up a B&M Trans Cooler for the win. Autos shift with line pressure and if you get your shift points adjusted right it will even bark in third.

TEXASPAUL 01-12-2006 03:13 PM

i went to transgos site and could only find older model kits none for 01 or newer

and whats a jerry mod

dom 01-12-2006 05:52 PM

i use a lentech full race valve body, a steeda trans cooler, a TCI deep sump alum pan, and a PI 4200 stall lockup converter multidisk. valve body was 550 bucks, pan was 150, cooler was 50-100 i dont remember exactly, and converter was 900

dom 01-12-2006 05:53 PM

trans go sucks. dont use it. the Jmod is a modification you do to your stock valve body. it works well. do that. its cheap and easy. www.tccoa.com will show you how

stanger00 01-12-2006 06:13 PM

some of you guys need to start reading the other posts a little more closely.

dom 01-12-2006 06:17 PM

if you go with a lentech valve body they are fixed line pressure. they shift harder than anything in the world. so no adj are needed to line pressure.

TEXASPAUL 01-12-2006 07:35 PM

is this what i want here
the street crusier aod valve body?
where could i get it installed and for how much?

dom 01-13-2006 08:06 AM

what year is your car? thats a good valve body..if your pushing 500BHP or more i would get the full race. you can install it very easily. you drop the trans pan. and remove about 20 bolts and your valve body will drop out. just replace it with the new one and your done. a shop should only charge you one hour. because it takes less than an hour to do. esp with a lift

spike_africa 01-13-2006 08:57 AM

I would also say install it yourself its very easy to do. Its even covered in the Hanes manuals for our cars.
