Royal Purple Gear Oil Question

The RP Gear Oil sold here on MT Gear Oil says it contains "hypoid friction modifiers". If I use this when I get the 4.10's put in, do I still need the Ford friction modifier on top of that? I realize it says no additional additives necessary, but every post I've read about gears says always use friction modifier...

I am pretty sure you wouldent need to if it already has the friction modifier in the oil...its probably for just like generic gear oil brands you have to add it

Guess I'm gonna find out one way or another...

Royal purple gear oil already contains friction modifier so you don't need to add any more.. :)

Cool! Now I just need to decide if I want to save a couple of bucks and get the Motives that MT has on sale right now or go for the FRPPs.

Go with either one, both are good quality, ford just likes charging a bit more for thier products just like anything they sell..  :D....

Those Motives are looking good for the price...Think I'm gonna place an order!!!

Cool....after the gear swap, you'll love your car even more..

Friction modifier helps eliminate gear chatter and royal purple already has it in so you dont need it. Good luck with the gears. They really wake the car up.

OK...one more question. My car has just under 19000 miles on it so I was just planning on ordering the installation kit. Will I also need to get a new pinion nut, pinion bearing and crush collar or do they all come in the kit?

You don't need the installation kit....

Do it anyway. There is no reason to tear it apart and not replace it if you are planning on keeping the car for any length of time. Its only a little extra, consider it the savings on the motives put to use.

Just ordered them!!! Along with the installation kit and the Royal Purple...can't wait to get 'em!!!

Be sure to check out my pictures on the install. Those were from my gear installation.

One more question for ya...I'll have to wait a while before I can get a programmer after the gears go in. Anyone know about how much my speedometer will be off after the gear swap?

itll be way off depending on rpm and actual speed. It also throws your odometer off. Ford should be able to reprogram your car for the gear swap if you have a ford dealership do it for you.

Thanks! I HATE going to the dealership for anything, but I just found out last week that the salesman I bought the car through just moved over to the service department as a service consultant...he knew that I planned on modding the car (even encouraged it) so maybe he'll be able to hook me up.
