Head light knob removal...???

I just ordered my simco's and was looking at install instructions. The hardest part seems to be removing the headlight knob. Do you guys know a way to easily remove the knob?

I think some people use a straight pen or a paperclip.

I used a small flat head screwdriver. That little knob can be a pain in the ass...wait till you try to put it back on LOL...you'll see it can be a pain in the ass. Also be verycareful when taking apart the cluster and putting the circuit board on the new one.

the headlight knob is a pain!!!! i ended up ordering a steeda aluminum one instead of jacking with putting the original back on......the steeda uses a recessed allen screw which makes life a lot nicer if you ever have to take it off again...

I'm having the same problem removing the switch knob. In the chilltons manual and the ARRC website tell of the Ford recomended way of removing the switch knob and shaft. It states...

Just below the headlight switch knob is a small access trim panel(I'm guessing this is where I have a rear defogger button?). Remove this panel to access the switch knob shaft release button.
Pull the headlight switch to the HEAD position, then, reaching through the instrument panel opening, depress the headlight switch knob shaft release button and withdraw the knob and shaft from the headlight switch.

I cannot seem to locate this "button". Does anyone know anything about the position of this button and how to use it? :help:

just that it is a PITA look on the underside of the light knob's shaft...you have to poke/pull the "button" with something and pull hard on the knob. by far the hardest part of the cluster swap.

It is a PITA and that's why i have the billet one now and it too uses an allen to screw in on. Just try to use a jewlers screw driver or something like that is small and work on it. if putting it back on, the shaft is 3 sided like a triangle shape, so key it on right or you'll be pushing on it like a mofo and it won't go on.

I just pulled mine with a lottle force, came right off. Done it 4-5 times, still works fine and fits snug?????

If you pull it out like you were to turn on your light and turn it until you see a little metal clip then you can use a really tiny screwdriver to pull the clip up and it slides right off. I have done this multiple times with ease.
Force and Technology dont go together!

I see the slot but the clip must be back into the knob far enough that I can't see it. It's making it very difficult to know if I have my pick in the right spot to separate the clip. For this reason I'm looking for help using the Ford recommended way of removing the knob shaft from the switch assembly.

The slot is right were the clip is. Just pout the screwdriver down at the back of the slot and kind of pull forward and you will hit the clip. YOu will want to try and get up under the clip and just raise it a bit and pull the knob at the same time. It should slip right off.
