07 Belt tensioner chirp

Hi, Im new here and have been trying to figure out what i should do about a belt chirp on my 07 mustng gt 4.6. Its whipple supercherged and just recently having a small chirp issue at startup. My thoughts is that the tensioner is the issue and after looking around im unsure on an aftermarket tensioner and now have seen things on an 8rib setup.. Im wondering what others would buy and where to get the best deal on these parts.. Hopeing to get some feed back soon. I want to get this problem solved before i take it back out this year.. Thanks for any input

Was hopeful to hear back from someone with there opinion about the best way to eliminate this chirp. This is why id like to know the best belt tensioner to go with knowing this is my problem, or this 8rib setup i have seen and read somewhere before but cant remember where i saw it.

Its more likely a idler pulley. One of the smooth pulley's. Pull the belt off and if you have a idler that spins with little to no resistance it is bad or if it makes an audible metal sound its bad. They are about 25-30 bucks from Ford.

The only aftermarket tensioner that is the best to buy is the thumper tensioners.

If you want to upgrade to 8 rib its best to go to a junk yard and find the grooved 8 ribs from ford trucks. The crank pulley is the same size as well so it will not change your boost. The idler pulley's and tensioner does not need to be changed nor does the water pump since they are smooth.

If you want something that is nicer GI Joe makes a 8 rib kit but its pretty expensive.

Idler is perfect. took it out tonight and chirp still persists on pissing me off.. lol.. I dont want to start part changing less it comes to it. considering the 8rib to hopefully be done with it. Its an 07 but i have just turned 5k on it. ganna try some belt dressing and see what that does. Used a stethascpoe tonight but was alot harder than i thought it was going to be to track it down, Ohh ill get it

Its a bearing going bad in a pulley somewhere...Either the tensioner idler or a different idler pulley. I been down this road lots of times with my 2 valve. The chirp will go away after it warms up and then will rear its ugly head again on morning start ups.

Is the belt in good shape, super chargers are hard on belts esp. 6 ribs.

ok, the belt tensioner idler pulley bearing was bad. Got a new bearing and after the install I noticed a woble in the pulley. Its been a few years since the install and decided to go over the torgue specs again. I noticed something that i messed up on and that was my kit came with a 100mm pulley to be swapped with the drivers side 90mm pulley. Well i didnt and put the 100mm pulley on my belt tensioner instead of the 90mm. Im wondering if i warped or somehow damaged the 100mm pulley or was it just a pile of junk before the install that i never noticed? Yes the bearing is pressed in correctly and is perfect. I was going to get a new 100mm idler from summit but they said being whipple they do not support. Is the only place i can get a new 100mm pulley is from whipple? or is there another route i can go? I have since swapped the 90mm to the tensioner and everything is in place.

I figure a 100mm pulley is a 100mm pulley. See what the part number is from a whipple install manual. They should have a parts list and should give a part number. Google the part number and see if it crosses over to something you can order from summit or the like.

That is what I would do. I am a vortech guy so that is the best I can do with the knowledge I do have.

Glad you found the chirp. Ive had a bearing failure and it caused some unnecessary damage to my alternator and other pulley's. It was an expensive experience.

Is exactly what i thought. 100mm is a 100mm. called summit and the guy was very unhelpfull.. tryed to cross the part with summit and on the net. Nothing! im half temped to just put a 90mm on it and call it a day. Id be 100% i wouldnt have a problem but it came with the kit and im kinda anal like that.. Thanks for the replys bro. After working on cars all stinkin day its kinda taking the fun out of wrenching on myn. 10mm's pfft.. lol.. if i hear nothing back after tomarrow im going to autozone and opening all there boxes.. lol.. again, thanks stanger.

Just emailed whipple and what they can do for me about my wobble on my pulley. Im going to guess after spending over 7k they will tell me they will ship a new 100mm for a small price
