Car Shudders when braking at low speed.
As of recent when I am going about ~ 5-10 mph and i put on my brakes to come to a COMPLETE STOP my car shudders/shakes then when it comes to a complete stop it stops.
Anyone know what could be the cause of this? its a 2004 v6 automatic with 48K miles on it. |
Guarantee you its something to do with it being an automatic. And having no knowledge on autos I would be the worst person to guess what, but that sounds exactly like what it'd be.
That, or there is a brake booster problem somewhere. But it'd do it all the time if so.. |
Mine does that occasionally, not all the time. I just put my car into neutral when I come to a stop. It also keeps my voltage from dropping.

I have the same problem actually, the rpm drops to like 530 or so and it shudders. But as soon as you give it gas it stops. Idk what it is.

Damn.....I didn't know this was such a recurring problem. Fuck automatics.
|
Agreed. It's just rare to get a v6 with a stick, or else I'd have one.
|
i didn't think sticks in sixxers were rare?
sometimes mine will do that too, i think it's just the engine almost stalling out so it shutters...idk |
I doubt this is warped rotors. The speed limit on it says that. If it were warped rotors his steering wheel would shake at all speeds when the brakes are applied and it would be most violent at speeds probably above 30mph but below 70mph.
I'm betting you have some slippy in the trans. take it to your local tranny shop and have them check it out. It seems to me that you've got something sticking which I'd bet is a clutch-pack or a sticky pressure solenoid. From experience, it could also be something entirely unrelated... the tie rods or tie rod ends. Lemme' splain: I once had a beater with rack-n-peanut steering just like we have. I had a really worn tie rod end. When I would hit a very particular speed and then dip the brakes just a tad to set weight on the front wheels, the waves lined up and the wheel would shake violently until I got fully to a stop. It was actually the front driver side wheel that was wobbling because the tie rod end was so busticated. As soon as the weight set on the tire it would begin a dynamic toe-in toe-out oscillation. Start by jacking up the front wheels one at a time and check for wobble in the steering by jerking on the tire at top & bottom then at front and back. If you get wiggle and clunk, that's bad. I'm still betting on the tranny being sticky. |
Start by turning your AOD off and try breaking, If the shaking is still there check a wheel by jacking it up and spinning it for warped rotor.
which translates in technically accurate reading to: Start by turning your Transmission off and try fracturing, If the shaking is still there check a dictionary to figure out what the hell this means. |
as of lately it has not been doing it. Ill continue to keep an eye out on it .

Recon: FYI to help you acclimate to some of the lingo things that might cause confusion, for our purposes AOD=automatic overdrive, it's a colloquial reference to a specific transmission model. OD=overdrive for our purposes. If you were saying what I think you were then yeah, good idea. I clarified it above. Could this possibly be the TC or ABS kicking in? |
Sounds familiar. My car, also an Auto, did this but was totally not related to a transmission issue. Mine had to do with air leaking metered air. While braking to a stop sign or traffic light my car would shudder and most of time just stall out. Also, I notice, this was especially apparent after I had a custom tune, that when the converter unlocks, typically unlocks if you faintly touch the brake pedal, the RPM's would drop by 300-400 RPM's. If you're already coasting and tap the brakes below 10 mph I could see this being a cause for your car to shudder.
If I'm not mistaken you posted that you just had a custom tune put in the car? |
When you throw it into neutral before stopping its a-ok.

If so then no, I just fixed my car. Why should i inconvenience myself by letting my car own me. I own my car and have no need for its issues no matter how nuisance the issue is. |
has it still done it since yesterday?

Don't try and be an asshole for no reason. And if I was talking to you specifically I would quote you, Like you did me. Also why would you even try and argue if you just fixed your car? For me and the other members that have a problem, I'm talking to them not you. This is a troubleshooting process, do you know what troubleshoot means?
