BBK long tube question
I just got a used set of the BBK ceramic headers that the paint is chipping off. Should I get a wire brush and clean these up and rattle can some high temp paint on them? whatca think guys

gotta be some uber high temp paint...but as long as the paint you use is made for headers or things that get that hot, it should be fine and clean up the look of course.
Dupli Color’s High Heat with Ceramic is good up to 1200 degrees if properly applied. It is $5.50 or so per can. You will need at least 2 cans. They are rattle cans. |
Might wanna check into getting them recoated. Spray on coatings will last maybe a year at best. I have to do my bikes pipes once a year.

I paid $250 for them and not all that worried about what they look like after they r on the on the car a while. I wanted 2 try and clean them up b4 I install them. Thanks
|
yeah I've seen paint specifically for headers...I think VHT makes some too. Do yourself a favor and pick up some stage 8 locking header bolts. I've heard lots of horror stories of headers leaking after install. My buddy that installed mine has used them on 6-7 sets that he has done and 0 issues.

I do plan on using the locking bolts. The list of parts keeps climbing. At the rate it's going it will b summer b4 I can put these on. I need a new mid pipe, new gaskets, the locking bolts, and after reading the dyno results from WNRacing it looks as if I got 2 get a tuner as well. I did plan on a tuner but not till I got some 3.73 gears, but that looks 2 have changed.

I ran without a tune on mine for about 1.5 years with the longtubes. There are tons of people running lt's without a tune. My a/f was right about 13.5 which was a bit lean. His was reading 14.6+. I wouldn't worry about the tune if you're looking to save money...if your that worried about it you could find a "dyno day" and have them do a couple pulls hooked up to the wideband and see what your a/f is. Don't get me wrong a tune will definitely help but I wouldn't sweat it.

The guy I got them from didn't act like he had his car tuned with them on either. I think I just over reacted after what happened 2 WNRacing. Thanks 4 the help, I can stop stressn bout that now.

I suggest the Percy locking bolts. If you have have to remove the headers, the Stage 8 bolts are a PITA to deal w/ (E-clips fly everywhere and finding a way to push them off is not easy). Also, make sure the headers are scuffed up nicely and completely grease free. I would clean them w/ Brake Kleen before painting to ensure cleanliness.

Try Jegs or Summit.
