have a problem, need help

well, there is the smell of anti-freeze coming from my a.c vents, a leak under the drivers console right by the gas pedal, windshield fogging up,and i've been going through antifreeze rapily and notice a antifreeze leak but from unknown. any ideas whats causing this? a radiator hose,ac unit leak, or something else?

thanks.

I'm sorry to say, that sounds like a heater core.

cpthowdy 02-25-2010 04:57 PM

i was really hoping nobody would have said that. can I just bypass the heater core until I have the time and money to repair it later? any pricing to which it cost to repair if it's the cause?

heater core. yes you can bypass it. Id guess about a grand to fix...maybe more. whole dash has gotta come out on most cars.

cpthowdy 02-25-2010 05:29 PM

bummer. whats the best route to go with?

zigzagg321 02-25-2010 05:38 PM

you can either deal without heat after you bypass the core, or you can have it fixed. choose your mechanic well. Attention to detail is key with dash removal and installation. All depends on your needs and bank account.

Until someone looks at those coolant lines and the heater core...it cant be said 100% that the core is leaking. But, you probably have a leaking core or a line to or from it has a problem. Its expensive either way just because there are so many parts and components layered on top of the shit you need to access/look at.

yea money is tight so ill choose another route. thanks

If you want to do it yourself, google it. One of the Mustang magazines did it in a FOX body.
