car stalls when i hit the brake

i have a strange problem. my 2001 GT will just stall sometimes when i hit the brake. It acts as if someone turned the ignition off.

the lights, radio and even dash will lose power for a second then turn back on....

anybody ever heard of this before?

Do the RPMs drop sharply when you lift off the gas and press the brake? Does it matter how hard you press the brake? How long before it comes back on, does the engine seem like it cactches itself? The thing I'm thinking is that the car is dropping rpms too quickly and stalling, possibly a problem with the IAC.

my old 2002 ford ranger used to do that

just a guess, if its electrical, ur brake pedal may touch a wire down there and ground it out or something.. my cars got an aftermarket security system and theres thousands of wires at my feet.. one crossed over the other day and melted,, lucky i didnt burn the car down.

yeah, it definately seems to be a short and not a mechanical or tuning issue.

playing with it today, i found i can get it to do it by putting the windos up, and and hitting the window switches(both at the same time) and it cause the car to short out.

my car would stutter at a stop if it was in drive, so i would put it in neutral and it wouldnt quiver and stall out. Your alternator may be getting weak or something, thats another thing to consider. I think autozone can check it maybe, not sure. Ever since mine went out i put a mechanical volt meter in my car.

my car had this problem last summer. Dealership said it was a known issue in the programming, and re-flashed the ECU for me. haven't had any issues since.
