99 rear end on a 96
 

i have a chance to pick up a 99 7.5 rear end from a v6 for a great price 50.00. so i know i have read they are a tad bit wider which wouldn't bother me i like the pushed out look in the rear. my concern is what modifications need to be made to line everything up like the shock/springs and stuff. is there going to be much welding and cutting? i figure if it is that cheap it would be worth it to get and build it myself. i just don't know exactly what would be involved in modification. i have read the only rear end that is a direct bolt on for the 94-98 is the 94-98. so what exactly do you have to do to get a 99-04 on a 94-98.

Bolts right in, and is a 1/2" wider on both sides. Why would you change one 7.5" rear end for another?

I would think you would want to get a 8.8 rear end from a GT, and add the gears while its out and then put that in there instead of another 7.5 v6 rear?

seriously... don't waste effort putting in another weak sauce 7.5. If you're going to do it, do it proper and put an 8.8 in it.

well, i never intend to put any forced induction so i didn't see the need for a 8in rear end. if i found a GT the same price i would definately get it. so i figured that 50 dollars is a good deal. if it isn't really worth it i won't fool with it.

There is no gain to be had there, so I am not even sure why you are considering this.

because it is so cheap that i could get it and put some 4.10 or 3.73 gears with some traction lock and take my time doing it and not be without my mustang. starting to have second thoughts now though. the gain is bigger gears. i don't have the money for a shop to do it. does it make sense or is it still seem pointless? i prob could get the rear end for 40 dollars if i offered it. he just wants to get rid of it i think more than make a lot of money just an idea. maybe i will pass idk

if u can get it why not take it then do the install urself. its not hard when the diff is out.

I was curious is there anything wrong with the 7.5 rearend drive you have right now?

i can see why you would want it then. since you want to do the gears and tlok it would be easier for you cause you want to do it yourself and continue driving your stang.

nope, that is another reason i am considering. if i screw it up i will still be able to drive it, just swap it back over

that is my thinking. doing it myself, saving money, not having any downtime(except for swapping when i am done)
