TB install
 

Well this sucks. I got a TB and plenum for 150 off craigslist both almost brand new. In putting on the TB I see that one of the screws for the TPS is stripped. My local shop said they cant get it off. Is there any other way to remove it? Or do I need to buy a new TPS?

drill the head off the screw, pull the TPS and find a screw to replace the screw when you put the TPS on the new TB.

If the hole in your new TB is stripped then you're going to have to tap it a bigger size and whittle away a bit at the hole in the sensor for a bigger screw to fit. You should really post a pic of what's busted so we can be sure we give you the right advice.

Well there isnt much to post a picture of. The bottom screw is stripped. I know there is wiring coming from the TPS. Does this wiring click on/off so I can just put a new TPS on easy? Or does it click on/off below the car? The wiring goes down below I believe, maybe I am wrong.

I am not a mechanic, so I am not sure what you saying when you type "tap it".

Lets try this, what would be the easiest way to remedy the problem?

post a pic with the old part, the new part and arrows pointing to what's broke and on which part it's broke. Terminology differences and your inexperience will prevent us from otherwise helping you very much.

TPS sensor harness unhooks fairly easily. If that's being a problem for you I'd suggest maybe not doing this all by yourself. It's seriously like a 10 minute job.

I think the hardest part of a TB swap is the stupid CC cable...that fucker always gave me a problem.

The TPS has a pretty obvious harness on it that clicks on and off...I changed mine out when I was barely 18 years old in my driveway 8 years ago.

The stripped screw...you could either drill the head off or get a chisel and hammer and knock it off that way. Pull the sensor off and use vise grips to unscrew the rest of the broken screw.

Well I went to advance and bought a new TPS. I was able to finish the install in no time at all.

Only problem is now that I finished the install my accelerator sticks slightly. something to do with the throttle spring?

throttle prolly feels like its sticking because the TB needs to be adjusted. went thru this with my BBK TB. there is a small set screw that you can adjust the TB blade with. if it lets the blade close too much, it will kinda "stick" inside the TB.

the set screw is where on the TB?

try looking at it and you'll find it.

Ok so I had time to look at it today and I have yet another question.

The TB set screw has no head on it, so how do I adjust it? I cant turn it with my fingers and I am not sure what I can use to get enough force on it to turn it. I believe there is some threadlocker on it.

What would you guys suggest to turn it?

And it seems like that is the issue, it closes more than my stock TB.

you need a small alen head wrench to go inside the screw itslef...

Oh I must've missed the allen wrenche part. I didn't see anything to turn it, must be on the far side of the TB.
