Plugs!
Alright im prob gonna catch so crap for asking this but how hard is it to change the spark plugs on a 2000 GT. I know where there at and all that I was just wondering if theres any thing that I might not expect to run into. Or am I over analyzing this whole thing?
Also are there any specific plugs that you guys recomend I should use or just stick with OEM? Thanks. |
NGK TR55 are stock heat rang and work great. They are cheap too. All you have to do is pull the intake setup from the passenger side and then you can unbolt the COPs and they slide right out from under the fuel rail. Really simple job. Once your good you can do it in 25-30mins like I do.

alright thanks
Ive put on headers and other mods befor so im sure i can handle it And done plugs on other cars a few dozen times so im sure ill do fine. thank you |
Agreed with spike on plugs and etc. Did mine recently using the TR55 plugs and actually really notice it on startup. If youve done headers before you can do this, super easy.

ok cool thanks guys

4.6's are alot easier than 3.8's in my opinion. On my car u just have a fight to reach everything. 4.6's have a convinient spark plug location, just removing the top cover should be the hard part.

pull the COP retaining screws
lean the COP's out and pull smoothly to remove. with a spark plug socket on a 9" extension, remove the plugs just like any other Get your new plugs ready and gapped if not pre-gapped PUT A DAB OF ANTI SEIZE on the spark plug threads. Just a dab. You'll hate yourself if you don't. Thread plugs in to seat by hand (aluminum threads in the head can strip or be damage easily) Go easy on it while tightening. It's not a steel head. |
I would recommend using the Ford Motorcraft plugs. While working at a parts store, I tried just about every plug available, and I had the best idle, mileage, and performance out of the motorcrafts.

+1 on the anti-seize.

and I used oil on the threads. |
That is terrible. Its also why I do plugs a minimum of once a year.

Do you know what the spark plug does? because if its fouling out it can't do its job well or at all if it gets really bad. I also use nitrous don't forget so I am going to use alot more plugs then you.
|
yea there were like 54,000 on those plugs
oh and to top it off when i changed em i ended up finding out that one of my COP's was bad I got a litl bit a HP boost from doing plugs so im happy :) |

Getting 10-12k out of a set of plugs on a nitrous car is pretty good with higher sized shots.
