new clutch is in
Got the Centerforce put in this morning, and so far I like it pretty well. Peddle effort feels just like stock. Just cant wait to get it broke in and head to the track!! Went ahead and put an aluminum driveshaft in as well...:)

Nice what did you go with?
|
centerforce df w/ fidanza alum. flywheel. MM quadrant and adjuster
|
I almost went that route clutch wise, but the price of the spec 2 was hard to pass up when your a college kid. I hear its a very smooth setup with great clamping power.
|
good so far...
What would you say about a TOB that is chirping during break-in? It is a self-aligning unit, and I was told it will chirp until it fully sets itself. I've put 70 miles on it and it is still chirping. The clutch takes 450-500 miles to break in, could the TOB be the same or is there a problem? My old TOB was chirping on its way out... |
A new one should not chirp, period. Either your TOB is crap, the retainer is shot, or the linkage is causing the bearing to not hit the clutch flush. Was the pressure plate torqued down evenly in a star pattern?

I did the same exact swap on it. Centerforce with a fidanza alum. flywheel. |
Of the 3 clutch jobs I've done, the bearing has never chirped. It only done so when the bearing failed.
|
Like they said it should not make noise.
|
I would try this, depress the clutch pedal and hold it down for about 2 mins. with the engine running about 1000 rpms, if the grease in it doesnt spread out and quiet down by then it aint going too.
When you bolted the pressure plate in did you notice if all the fingers were at the same height? All of your parts are high quaility and should not make noise. I hope everything works out ok, cause thats a lotta work to replace it. |

I'll try that and see how it goes, I was sceptical of the chirping:( It seems that while driving if I open the thottle a bit the chirping goes away, that is until the rpm's come back down under 2k or I press the clutch in... |

My focus chirped for the first few weeks it was in and then after about 200-300 miles it stopped and cleared right up.

What TOB did you use?

My car has the same exact setup, had it on it when I bought it. It has had a chirp since I bought. started out super quiet and now it is much louder and I can definitely tell its the TOB going out.
|
Just a thought, try adjusting a little bit to see if it makes any difference, maybe one click in or one click out.

Thats good !! Good Luck
|
I got the chirp to go away by adjusting the clutch almost all the way in, so now I have to press the peddle almost to the floor to shift and there is alot of slack in the cable when the peddle is not pressed...
|
That's bad too, as that wears the synchros faster. Have it set so it just starts to engage 1/3-1/2 of the way up from the floor and release fully by 2/3-3/4. If the chirp is still there, then the adjustment isn't the problem.
