Steeda TRI-AX Shifter
 

So i bought my steeda tri-ax shifter from am for my 03 gt for maybe about 6-8 months now. I dont know if its me, but it seems as if every since then the shifts were a little rough to begin with. Didnt really start payin any attention to it til i started taking it to the track, and missed 3rd gear numerous of times. Anyone have any ideas, or suggestions?

I've had the Steeda and the B&M short throw shifters and prefered my stock shifter over both of them. I missed more shifts with an aftermarket shifter than I ever did with my stock one.

Take out the shift stop bolts if your using them or set them correctly because they can cause all kinds of problems. The TR3650 tranny has shift stops built in the tranny so you don't actually need them.

i love my aftermarket mgw shifter but check the stops

so i can take the stop bolts out completely and not have any issues??

yes you can, i had a problem with the stop bolts working themselves in and it wouldnt keep it in 4th gear, they cause problems, you dont need them in

I believe you can adjust the neutral bias springs (what makes the shifter move itself to neutral). Make that stiffer and 3rd should be better. I love my Hurst, just not the TR3650 attached to it.

never had a problem with my tri-ax. in fact, i know the engineer that designed it for steeda. adjust the stop bolts, or take them out all together.

ok so i checked the stop bolts and everything seems to be well, i didnt take them out yet, but will probably do that today. Where/How do i adjust the neutral bias springs?

Consider this before you make any more adjustments:

Personally I've found one of the biggest problems is that people try to treat the aftermarket shifter like the stock shifter and try to purposely guide the Tri-Ax into 3rd when the Tri-Ax does it for you. When they try to guide the Tri-Ax they end up fighting against it. The best way to go from 2nd to 3rd on a Tri-Ax is to push it forward from behind without using your hand to guide it in. Just give it the forward push and let the shifter guide itself into 3rd as you push forward.

If you are putting more than a little effort into it then that may account for the rough feeling you are describing and your 3rd gear problem.

ya you'll get used to it real quick, its nice not to have to put effort into shifting

you know, maybe that is my problem. Before i make a any adjustments i think i will give it a try just pushing it up. I think i am afraid that it will not kick itself into 3rd and hit 1st. Guess i will just have to overcome that fear. Thanks again guys for all the replies, you all have been a great help

The only gears you need to guide it into are first and fifth (and reverse). It'll figure out 2nd, 3rd and 4th from just a shove. Let the shifter do the work.
