best way to get into your locked 99-04 mustang.

ok, so i lock my keys in my car alot, and never seem to make a spare, is there a good way i can get into my car? other than paying someone becuz its bullshit. ive tried wedging the glass and door to try n get between the handle n stuff but i just cant do it like the other guy does.. the doors are too long to hit the unlock button, and i have rain guards as well so i cant come down on it. im in dire need of help!

Teufelshunde3/5 05-24-2009 01:06 AM

I had to do that once. ended up using a long thin metal rod to hit the unlock button. It took a long time and was frustrating as hell but eventually I got in.

then go make a few cheep spares. they won't start the car without the chip but that wont prevent them from opening the locks.

I've only locked myself out of a car once, my v6 mustang. Luckily I had some door lock pins that had a lip on them. Got a piece of wire, bent a loop, slid it through the window glass and moulding and pulled up on the lock pin. Another way for you to do it would be to have something like a slim jim and slide it down between the window glass and door and pull up on the mechanism inside the door.

got a hanger? use it.

Haha, I wasn't sure what it was called, I got close. OHH YEAH!

King 05-24-2009 12:10 PM

Actually we call them slim jim's here in my town. A totally worthless fact, sure...but a fact none the less.

INtZ 05-24-2009 12:13 PM

OH YEAH!!!! SNAP INTO A MUSTANG!!!

Leonide 05-24-2009 12:27 PM

Break the window

It will be costly but after you do it I bet you won't lock your keys in your car anymore :D

jseven 05-24-2009 01:00 PM

$160 for a chipped key.. Car won't start without a Ford key that has the "chip" installed.

You can get a spare key cut without the chip that will just unlock the doors / trunk though.

That's what I'm referring to, since he locked his chipped keys in the car.

mustangV6_04 05-24-2009 02:11 PM

slim jim or coat hanger. I used my stock antenna as a slim jim once

engineman312 05-24-2009 05:58 PM

if you still have the factory attenna you can use that. make a $7 spare and keep it in your wallet.

and i've heard them called a slim jim all the time. never heard them called anything else.

zigzagg321 05-24-2009 06:51 PM

lol @ Evan... "dont lock your keys in your car"....

krenogin 05-24-2009 08:17 PM

hah well thanks guys, eventually got em out.. spreaded the door away from the window on the outside edge,, and stuck a metal rod in there and grabbed the bottom of the push down lock and pulled it up from underneath.. but i gotta get a key made.. thanks for all the suggestions!

lmao, seriously.. How hard is that?

I could completely understand it if the locks in the Mustang were like the locks in my Stratus, the car automatically locks itself if the keys aren't in the ignition after 30 seconds..

King 05-24-2009 08:39 PM

...I don't even know if it is possible for me to forget my keys in my car. I'd probably have a panic attack if they weren't on my person

BikerSk8rKid 05-24-2009 09:29 PM

My car keys don't have a chip in them. ;( My SUV does I'm sure.

jseven 05-25-2009 06:50 AM

i thought mine didn't either, because they look like any regular old set, but apparently they do.

yes they do....theyre small and only meant for the passive alarm system.

Teufelshunde3/5 05-25-2009 09:14 PM

Went out today and followed my own advise about getting spares made to unlock the doors.

Home depot $1.87 each +tax so get a few.

Are you sure? Because I don't have a chip in mine and the car still starts. I don't even have a alarm on my car, it's hooked up to the horn. HAHA
The only thing my keys do is unlock the car, lock the car and pop the trunk. Maybe I'm just stupid. By the way I have a 1995 Ford Mustang GT 5.0

Teufelshunde3/5 05-25-2009 09:41 PM

The chip is inside the large plastic cover portion. Ie. the reason it's so fat.

If you think you don't have a chip., go to home depot and get a spare made for less than $2.00 test it on the locks and then try and start your car with it. Leave the original key in the trunk (chip has to be in a certain proximity to the ignition switch) or back seat. If the car starts, you don't have a chip in your key.

If I remember correctly the guy who sold me the car said this is a spare, not the orignal one and this one isn't even close to bulky.

Staring at it now, it has a little box for the Lock, Unlock, Panic, and Trunk and it's all by it's self with no key attached. Then I have a key sperate that is for the locks and for the ignition. Which is just like a stndard house key, but actually has a little tiny black cover on it.

I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have a chip. LoL Exactly like this, but actually made for my car. LOL
