Oil Weight

I changed my oil (along with a tune up + more) in like January from 10W - 40 to something I actually forgot and I can't find anything kind of proof of purchasing what oil I got. I just know it's Royal Purple since that's all I get. I'm pretty sure it was either 5W - 30 or 10W - 30 and all I remember was telling Dustin what I was getting.

Question: Would it matter if I put different kind of Oil Weight in?

Question: What oil would be best for my 1995 Ford Mustang GT 5.0?

I'm rough on my car, taking off fast and I kind of speed, but this isn't always constant and it depends on my mood. My worker said that since I'm rough on my car that I should use thicker, haha. I don't trust his opinion one bit, nor take any of his advice.

Edit: I have about 95,000 miles on it, runs perfectly fine and doesn't seem to have any problems.

5W-30 or 10W-30 will be fine for you. I would stick w/ the thinner stuff during the winter months, if it gets pretty cold by you. Otherwise, I'd go w/ 10W-30 for the added thickness and protection. However, if you're penny pinching, stick w/ 5W-30 for mileage sake.

Would it matter if I mix it because I'm not 100% sure on what I put in? I remember talking to you about this too. My brother just said I need to use 10w-30 for the Summer because it's thicker. Then he said thinner for the winter, but yet I can get my car warm/hot after being rough and what not.

Sorry I'm dumb and freaking out because it's way BELOW the line.

+1

I'm going to go get 5w-30 because that's what I'm sure I got in the first place, but I could be wrong. I hope it doesn't wreck my car if I mix it because it's not the right weight.

"if you're penny pinching,"

What does that mean exactly?

If your tryin to save money, thicker oil can lower your gas mileage a bit but in summer will help extend the life of your car. Either way your usin royal purple so you cant mess up too much, and i wouldnt quote me on this but i dont believe mixing will hurt.

Yeah it was at 10w-40 since I got the car around last May until Jan of this year. My gas mileage has lowered, but that could have been since I switched gas stations :/ Na I don't care for saving money as long as my car gets what's needed. I'm just going to do a oil change in May/June to change it to 10w-30 and then when winter comes 5w-30

My brother said thicker oil is bad for the winter because I can't just take off fast or be rough on it when it needs to warm up or something like that. I did that though the whole time until I changed my oil. :/

Mixing is fine as long as it's the brand, and not the grade. Mixing the grades will create weird viscosity levels.

As for winter, thick is bad because it's too thick at those cold temperatures, until the engine warms up.

Thank you! I went and got some 5w-30 Royal Purple and the guy said it's okay to mix it. I'll change it to 10w-30 on my next oil change for the Summer.

Don't run a thicker oil for no reason, run what the motor needs which in your case is the factory rating of 5w30.

And that's the problem. The 302 was designed for 5W-30 and 10W-30. In fact, Ford only switched to 5W-30 for mileage reasons.

So I should run 10w-30 for the Summer?

Ps. My car is running so much better and I love it, the car doesn't back fire and the idle seems to be way better, it sounds louder and meaner. But I over filled it by like quarter of an inch. :/

5w30 all the time and you will be fine.
